How LOng Do Loaded Mags Last???

    Hey guys,

Just curious how fast the springs in magazines last if you keep them loaded 24/7? I keep my mags loaded for easy and quick access, but I dont want to do that for all of them if it's gonna cause the spring to weaken faster.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II, and KimPro mags and also the supposedly garbage one that came with the gun.

    Thanks.

Loaded mags don't hurt the spring. The constant compression/decompression is what wears out the spring.

Just rotate mags. Keep them loaded for a couple of weeks and them switch out a different mag.

Forever almost. It's the constant loading and unloading that wears them out.

Good to know....I was doing the exact opposite: Unload in the morning when I go to work and reload it when I get back home! Good thing I asked.

          Thanks!

Loaded mags last as long as you don't shoot them. Then they become almost full mags, then eventually empty mags.

              ^^^ This ^^^

The spring is designed to store it's energy through compression. So long as it's compressed, that energy is still stored. Example... I recently came into a half dozen of so GI 1911 mags which were loaded to capacity with GI ball when I got them. I was told they'd been loaded at least 30 years ago, probably longer, and put away in a drawer.

Every single round in those mags ran through my Combat Commander without a single FTF, or any other malfunction for that matter.

Concur with all above, if you do want to rotate the magazines, rotate them every time we do daylight savings.
