anybody have experience with this particular model? i'm thinking of getting that for my next 1911 but have read from the net about cycling problems.

The problem with all "longslide" 1911 types is slide mass and recoil spring rate.

You're using the same amount of inertia to move a heavier weight, so contrary to intuition, you need less recoil spring rather than more, and using nothing but +p helps as well.

The other solution is much more costly, and that is to have the slide machined to cut weight - the most common area is the forward top sides of the slide. If you can cut weight down to near factory 5" slide weight, the piece will be much more reliable.

Placed a "notify me" status with Bud's Gunshop in 2008. Finally was notified in October 2010 and bought it right away.

Cleaned and lubed before taking it to the range. Put about 300 rounds through it with a mix of Blazer and PMC ammo with 1 failure to go into full battery. That was remedied with a slight push to the back of the slide and no other issues were experienced.

Had to crank the rear sight over to the right a fair amount in order to hit POA at 25 yards. Recoil was very soft for a .45. Felt like I was shooting a .38 with wadcutters!

Wanted a crap load of custom work done to it so I sent it into Sprinfield back in late November 2010 to have the following performed:

1) Install Harrison Design fixed sights (with tritium) in existing LPA cuts in slide (Front & Rear): $150

2) Fit slide to frame (tighten): $190 + any add'l charge for stainless steel

3) Fit match barrel & bushing (non supported chamber) with GI guide rod and long GI guide plug: $290+$45

4) Fit match speed trigger: $50

5) Action job with tool steel match hammer and sear: $225

6) Adjust trigger pull to 4 lbs.

7) Fit S&A 1 piece mag well to match bevel on frame (delete ILS): $180

8) machine checker MSH on S&A magwell, 25 lpi:

9) machine checker front strap, 25 lpi: $160

10) Undercut front strap (Colt style): $75

11) Nub slide stop: $25

12) G10 flat bottom black grips: $69

13) Inspect and test fire for function/range test for accuracy (test target enclosed when pistol returned): $100

I think that just about covers it. If you want one order it now and be prepared for a long wait or you might luck out and see one on gunbroker!

Never had a cycling problem with mine. Although I am a bit disapointed with the trigger pull on it, by far the heaviest trigger of any of my SA 1911's. Check gunbroker, I got mine from mastercampers in yuba city along with a 9mm SA

Very nice, well thought out package, I think you'll be amazed when you get the pistol back (especially when you try to rack the slide for the first time). Kind of curious though why you went with a 4lb trigger on a range pistol; I personally prefer 3lbs for a target pistol or less

They've been on my list for a while as well - just haven't had a chance to pick one up. It'd be a nice bookend to my Springfield Ultra Compact....

And B Strong has it right on the money with the comment about the recoil spring.
