Just got back from the range shooting my new S & W M&P 9mm that my husband bought me for Christmas. From what I had read during my research everyone seemed to be very pleased with the accuracy of the sites out of the box. We ended up having to do quite a bit of adjustment. I know it wasn't just the way I was shooting because there were 4 other experienced, excellent shooters with us and they were way off also. We made some adjustments and finally got it dead on. This is the first time any of us had shot with this particular make/model gun. Any suggestions or comments? We all had the same problem of it shooting low, which we adjusted for.

Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm question

Low and left (if right handed) is a common issue to new shooters of the platform. An Apex sear is a great way to lighten the heavy trigger which is might contribute to pulling your shots. Finger placement for the DAO style trigger is also closer to the joint than the fingertip/pad like many other pistols.
Furthermore, the sights are set up for point of impact to be the "dot" on the front sight, not the top of it. Cover your target with the dot and you'll be more on.Last edited by Fate; 01-09-2011, 4:43 PM.sigpic "On bended knee is no way to be free." - Eddie Vedder, "Guaranteed"

I didn't have that problem with either of my 40 cal M&P. Just windage (left of right), you might check with S&W tech support about a lower profile front sight which would bring up the point of impact. Or go with a set of Trijicon Night Sights. Anyway I would call their Tech Support first.

I also got M&P 9mm and I am about to pick it up from jail in couple days. I been told by many other M&P users to buy Apex product. Do I really need to buy their product? Is M&P factory trigger that bad? I have never upgrade my firearms before. I thought more you shoot and dry fire striker action firearms with snap caps. The trigger gets better down the road.Comment

Both mine were that bad, and being an experienced handgun shooter I still had problems with the front sight moving to the upper right no matter how much I concentrated on a correct trigger pull. Not to mention the false reset that made me squeeze the trigger before it was fully reset.
Having a consistent trigger gives me the confidence, to hit what I'm actually shooting at even past normal handgun range. My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment

My M&P's are almost 2 years old, and never had to adjust anything. Maybe I just got lucky.
The trigger takes some getting used to, especially when they are new. It will smooth out after a few hundred rounds.
No need to put Apex parts in. It does make them better guns, but there is no NEED. They work just fine out of the box...

With them being that old, you should probably upgade to the newest striker and bigger sear spring modification for reliability purposes.
Does anybody need Apex parts? No
Do some people like guns that function better than stock? Absolutely!
I trust the QC from Apex much more than S&W's assembly line and I'm glad that Apex was able to make an adjustment of my trigger bar to slide contact which was the result of factory tolerance stacking

[QUOTE=echang86;5586862]Stock M&P trigger is gritty nasty.
I must agree. Went to the range today and shot about 350-400 rounds, which brings my M&P 40 to just over 1100 rounds total and the trigger has yet to work its self out.Never slow down, never grow oldComment

Purchased an M&P 9 from Turners in San Diego. On sale for 489. I figured I better jump on it.
Loved shooting the M&P rental out at Project2000. About my only complaint was the sights. I like them a little larger.
Anyone tried the XS Sights on an M&P or any other gun? I was going to pick those up.

I can't stand the XS sights on anything outside of a pocket gun used at point blank distance, yes I know James Yeager's stance on them but I do not think the hold any advantages to traditional sights personally. My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment
