I just picked up my M&P today. Will this replacement part work?:

Seems like it would eliminate problems with the "home made" mag safety removal.

That spring is actually less than it cost me for a suitable spring at the hardware store, and doesn't have to be cut down. Good find.

Smith and Wesson will also sell you the spring. My M&P9 came from factory with spring installed. (no mag disconnect.)

Hey all, I bought my first gun last week after lots of research and shooting, an M&P 9. I also ordered the Apex DCAEK kit, RAM, and FRE. Do I have to order the mag safety deactivation spring as well for the Apex parts (RAM) to work? Thanks for the help!

No you dont need to order the magazine safety removal spring. Your kit will work fine with what you got.

Uhh... You can just use a spring from a clicky pen if you're removing your magazine disconnect. Don't need to spend money on an entire drop in unit.

I have done that as well......all you have to do is cut the spring long enough to keep the sear deactivation lever in place, but small enough so you can compress it in order to get it in place.

If you're not comfortable with that, then spending $4.00 would be a good idea as well, I may order one or two and replace the bic pen springs with those.

To the OP, FYI, I bought that part. I must say that I'm satisfied with having spent the money on a factory part. However, after learning more about the way my M&P works, I'd be just as satisfied if I had saved myself $30 bucks.
