Custom Made Pistol Storage in Gunsafe

I just recently got our new gunsafe, and were displeased by the storage options available. I bought a pretty large safe for a good price at Costco, but it was very plain vanilla. I wanted a way to display my handguns as you open the safe, and also save a lot of storage room. I started looking around at the commercially available options, but they did not work for me. There were ones with velcro, but the velcro pockets obscured almost the whole gun. I also dont trust velcro as much. So I started working out in the garage, and came up with this. The rack just picks up on the stock screws. The safe still closes with a good amount room between the guns any any surface. I plan to eventually cover the metal with a rubberized coating, but the rack has changed a few times recently. When I have the finalized version I will do the coating so the guns do not bang back and forth on the metal. As it is now rack has worked flawlessly for a month. Im really pleased.

I really feel like its a much better option than anything else currently available. If anyone else around the bay area is interested I could make another. All it would take is precise measurements.

If anyone is interested I can provide pictures.

Nicely designed and functional rack. I like it! Keep tweaking it and keep us posted. I need something like that for my safe.

As an aside.....you keep your gunsafe in your garage?? Only a flimsy steel (or is it plywood) garage door separating your safe from the driveway and street? Don't think I'd be comfortable with that. Looks too easy for a bad guy to back his truck up your garage and make a quick getaway with your gunsafe. Hopefully, you have other barriers/safeguards in place.

Maybe you didn't read the RULES.

That you have to post your address, the safe combo and the hours you work before the 12th Post.
        LOL

        Seriously, that's a nice idea.

Ya, I sure as hell would blackout those windows on your garage door if that safe is staying there too.

I wouldn't worry too much about that garage door. It looks like a solid panel door. Just hammer-drill some holes into the concrete & epoxy some grade8 or better all-thread in place & don't worry. Seriously, Simpson ET or AT w/ 5/8" All-thread dowels can handle earthquake shear & uplift loads for a house. That's how you fix a concrete contractor's messed up holddown installations. 4 should work just fine against some punks trying to steal your safe.

Thanks for the post - I have been trying to find something like this for a while but was thinking about velcro or MOLLE rther than pins to be flexible.

Can you list the supplies you used to make this and any tips?

Great job. Looks good. Looks like you got enough room to put a car/truck in that garage, also. But it looks like ya need to put more guns in the safe. Waaaaay too much airspace in there. Too much airspace = too much room for humidity = bad for guns. Fill up the space with guns = less airspace for humidity = good for guns.

Thanks for all the replys. Thats my shop and I was the one to build the rack. Im computer illiterate so I had my brother(strungout) post up some pictures because I thought you might like it.

As far as it being stolen im not really worried about that. Its a 1040 pounds, bolted to a think concrete slab and my driveway is really long and steep. Im much more worried about someone stealing all my tools....thats where the real money is in there.

As far as making the rack, its just aluminum rod, some flat aluminum bar and
3/8ths fuel hose right now. Its just a matter of measuring it up, cutting and welding it back togethor. If you PM me I can take some pictures while im building prototype 2.

And no sorry, I <3 my hand guns and just can't part with them. The next one on my list to buy is a colt python or ive always had my eyes on a rogers precision 1911.

Awesome work on that. I recently made myself a pistol rack. I didn't actually fabricate it like you though. Just used a dishrack and wrapped it in a soft rubber placemat.

I like how you think. I knew there was a reason to get more guns
