    M&P 9 ammo question

First the story on why/how I bought it...

I have a RAW AR-15 that I no longer shoot. I went to the gun shop trying to figure out a way to sell it. They suggested parting it out and keeping the lower. There was a guy who overheard the conversation and asked if I was serious because he had a few OLL's that he wanted to build. We struck a deal and I bought a M&P 9. If I feel the urge to get back into an AR-15 I still have my lower.

I have 9 more days until the gun comes home. So, what ammo runs well in this gun?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    What type of ammo? Target/plinking/SD?

I just picked up my M&P9 as well and can only speak to plinking ammo. I ran 200 rounds of UMC 115gr through it with no issues. I also ran about 20rds of Blazer CCI that my father had sitting in a box for about 10+ years with zero issues.

I have about 150rds of Federal AE 124gr that I'm going to shoot at my next range session. Don't think i'll have any issues with that either.

I have over 400 rounds of WWB through mine. No FTF, FTE's.

Some of the shallower rimmed stuff (like WWB) is rumored to have problems, but I've not had any issues with mine. You can always upgrade to the APEX failure resistant extractor. I'd also recommend the APEX DCAEK and RAM due to how much it improves the trigger.

When I had my M&P9 I shot Brown Bear, WWB, Blazer Aluminum, Winchester Ranger JHP's, some Miwall Reloads, and all functioned perfectly.

Will Smith and Wesson void warranty if user decides to install any apex product?

I'm not sure about this, though I have heard that people that send their gun in to S&W for warranty with Apex parts installed will have them removed and replaced with factory S&W parts. So, if you ever need to send your Apex'ed out M&P in for repairs, remember to remove ALL Apex parts from it before doing so - else you might lose $120 in upgrades.

I've heard conflicting things...as far as I'm concerned I'll just swap the stock parts back in if I ever have to send it in for warranty repair. The vastly better trigger provided by the APEX trigger parts is worth the hassle.

I have almost 2k rounds through mine and it runs everything...HP of almost every brand, steel (Wolf & Silver Bear), FMJ of almost every brand.

                  Not a single problem...

I have not had any ammo not work in my M&P 9 or 40sw. I have had a few SWC fail to feed in my 45acp M&P.

Agreed, just pull the Apex parts out if warranty work is needed.

When my M&P 9mm was brand new I had a couple of times in the first 200 rounds where the slide would not lock open on the last round. I was using Rem UMC. Hasn't happened since and I use UMC, am Eagle, Win and Federal FMJ. I'm liking this gun more and more every time I shoot it.
The manual says not to use +P+ ammo. Other than that anything should be good.

This... But there are some harder primers like RWS that gave 2 failures to fire with the old black striker, which was solved with the newest generation striker here:

Hotter 124gr seems to run the best for both plinking and defensive ammo, I've had great luck with 124grRanger-T +P and Lawmen 124gr the best so far.

Only if they think the Apex parts are the cause of that particular problem, it is better to put the factory parts in if it ever needs to go back since they will not send it back to you with the Apex parts installed or at all.

                            My M&P loves PMC ammo.

For my M&P9 I've probably fired just a tad over 4,000 rounds with it. The below listed ammo worked well for me.

                              Target Ammo:
                              Federal (American Eagle and Champion)
                              CCI Blazer (Aluminum and Brass)
                              Sellier & Bellot
                              Magtech
                              WWB
                              UMC
                              PMC
                              Fiocchii
                              Speer Lawman

                              HD/SD:
                              Speer Gold Dot
                              Hornady (TAP and Crital Defense)
                              Federal Hydro-shok
