    Firearm transfer question

I purchased a firearm from my father in law about 4 years ago and we were suppose to do a transfer, but due to my wife no longer talking to him and not knowing where he is. I cant get the transfer done on the firearm. My question is there a form that I can fill out and send in to the doj to put the firearm in my name. I looked at the DOJ website for a while and cant seem to find it. If someone knows where the form is can you please post the link. Any advice would be great. Thanks calgunners

You want this BUT it could only be done between your wife and her dad, not between him and you.

So would I have to do the transfer between them and then do a transfer from my wife to me?

She can mail in the form with the $19, and then it is your community property. If you want to be the registered owner, mail in another $19.............I guess.

Did this sale take place in California?

For the most part, unless the firearm in question is reported stolen, or you come into contact with LE, the registration isn't an issue.

You could take the firearm and do a PPT to another individual, handgun or long-gun, and the registration status of the firearm being transfered never comes up as an issue, again, unless the piece is in the system as being stolen.

The other side of this is the consideration of the safe gun roster, AW by name or features, etc.

If we're talikng about a non-AW, Non-AW by features, on the SGR, you can do the voluntary registration form and be done with it.

The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

The age of the transaction is what matters in this case (statute of limitations has passed)...if you wish, you can fill out a voluntary registration...but it's not required.

This sale did take place in california and its not stolen. It was his service pistol when he was a LEO in Palo Alto back in the late 70's early 80's. Its a colt python 6 inch, so I know its legal to own in california.
