    shooting with your weak side

Hi, I want to start practicing shooting with my weak side, left. Do you guys close your dominant eye and use your weak eye? When I shoot normally I shoot with both eyes open, I'm right eye dominant and right handed so it works out. If I shoot with my weak side and try to keep both eyes open there is no way I can use my left eye, so should I just close my right eye?

    Thanks

No, shoot with you weak hand and dominant eye. It may seem strange but it works. After a while your weak hand won't be weak anymore. Nowadays, when I shoot a pistol, I have a hard time deciding with hand to shoot with. My dominant hand is almost non dominant any more.

With handguns I shoot weak handed (right) and with my dominant (left) eye. The gun is out at arm's length so it doesn't matter which eye I use.

Why are you shooting with the off hand? Just to practice skills? You can practice the skill of using one eye or the other too.

Practicing with your off hand is a good thing. There are scenarios in which your main hand gets incapacitated, so it's a good thing to practice with your off hand.

When I first got my non-resident NV CCW permit, it kinda suprised me that part of the shooting qualifications required you to use your off-hand. Wasn't expecting it and since then I practice with my off hand.

I use off hand, dominant eye.

I use weak hand, dominant eye. There are two ways to line up the sight with the opposite eye. One is to cant the gun.......not "gangsta" style but just enough so you can line up the sights. The other way is to turn your head. The problem with the second one is it cuts down on your overall field of perception toward the target........not a good thing if SD shooting is your goal.

weak hand, dominant eye. I am left handed and right eye dominant so for me shooting weak hand is al little easier than for most. But for balance and control purposes as well as shifting the sights to your dominant eye a slight cant to at the most 45 degree cant can be helpful and also remember it also helps with control to keep your strong hand in tight to the body. I as well as alot of serious shooters and competators actually bring the strong hanbd tightly into the chest, just my .02

Wow thanks, had no idea so many are shooting weak hand with dominant eye. I'll try that the next time I'm at the range.

                    Thanks, Ernie

Good advice, guys. Handgun practice to center of mass at 25 yards is good, as well as double and triple taps if you have a place that allows rapid fire.
