Taurus PT24/7

Does anyone here have a Taurus PT24/7, and if so, how do you like it? CDNN has them at a price of $300. My GF is looking for a handgun for home/self defense.

Spend a wee bit more and get a used but not abused Glock, HK, SIG.......or something else. From MY EXPERIENCE with the Taurus brand, I find their reliability to be spotty.

...The Taurus brand probably has the most problems of any other major firearms manufacturer. Now watch someone jump in and say "I have fired 10,000 rounds through my Taurus without a problem". That poster would still probably agree that the average Taurus is more problem prone than the average Glock, Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, Steyr, etc.

Maybe so, but that was what the OP asked for. Actual hands-on experience with THAT handgun, not gossip and innuendo. Taurus makes an entry-level pistol in most categories, and there's no doubt the fit and finish on some of their models isn't as good as some of the other firearms out there. On the other hand, I find the 24/7 series to be on a par with many of the more highly regarded poly pistols in terms of fit, finish, and feel. I can find someone to complain about every product ever made, any mechanical device is subject to having a mechanical flaw.

As far as hands-on use, I own a Taurus 24/7 Pro DS .45ACP Compact as one of my carry guns. I purchased it at retail, even though I'm an engineer for a different manufacturer of firearms (and it's a manufacturer who's in your list of preferred firearms manufacturers). The company I work for doesn't currently offer a nice compact poly .45ACP, so I chose the Taurus. Approximately 300 rounds downrange without a single hiccup. Of course I went through it like I would any firearm to clean all the preservative off the internals and to deburr anything that looked like it could use it. The magazines especially appear to be pretty low-end, I found pronounced parting line flash on all the followers that I removed with a medium sanding stick and there was a fair amount of gunk inside the magazines. If I recall, the only other thing I deburred was a place on the grip that felt sharp to me. Whether that initial preparation made a difference or not, I can't say. But I'm so pleased with that Taurus that I've just ordered another one. This time it's a PT709, let's see if I was just lucky the first time.

my brother had one and so did my buddy. both hated them. i hated shooting them. my buddy sold his and my brother's got stolen. neither one is sad that they are gone. I have a taurus millennium pt145 and it's vastly different. The 24/7's are terrible.....look at a different gun because you'll end up wishing you did anyways but you'll be stuck with a gun you probably wont be able to sell easily and you'll be out a bunch of cash. terrible gun......terrible............

Here is your I have a 24/7 pro in 45apc and have about 9000 round through it at uspsa matches and the only problems that I have had are bad reloads. I really enjoy mine. My wife and kids shoot it and have no problems. I have heard and read several people don't like them but most are people who have just heard a story like my friends friend had one and>>>>. The people that I know that have one like them and there hasn't been anymore problems than with any other manufacturer.

I owned a NIB 3rd generation Taurus PT745 Pro. Single stack .45acp. It consistently shot low, poorly designed magazines (loose followers) would occasionally misfeed. After several trips to Taurus in Miami, at my expense, to fix the FTF issues, I gave up and sold the gun.

Next up was a NIB Taurus PT709, 9mm, SA/DA, single stack with an inconsistent trigger pull and a rather vague accuracy at 21'. A 6 week Miami vacation for tuning at Taurus repair failed to solve those problems and eventually was sold off at a loss.

I own two other "Plastic Guns" - a Glock 26 and a Ruger LCP. IMHO, the G26 is a work of mechanical art when compared to a Taurus.

To anyone considering the purchase of a Taurus semi auto, take time to Google: Taurusarmed.net Then make a decision to own a Taurus.

that's an understatement....it's almost like there's a 3 to 1 pulley system set up in the trigger!!!!
