    Need night sights

Just got a brand new Glock 17 Gen 3 as Christmas Gift.

Now from my previous experience, I got Trijicon 3 dot sights from optics planet and put them on my Sig p226. I absolutely love them but they are 80 bucks. I looked around for the same sight picture as the Glock sights but no one sells that design. So I'm stuck with three dot sights and also took a look at meprolights. Anyone had experience with them? Should I just stick with the Trijicons or try them? I hear there a tad brighter and that may be a great plus in my book.

IMHO Meprolights are far superior to Trijicon HG night sights. I have both and my meprolight sights are brighter than my Trijicons but the part that sold me on them is the fact that they are far better for day light / twilight shooting. Meprolight seals the gas lamp and the white outer ring behind some kind of clear material to keep the entire unit sealed. Trijicon only seals the gas lamp inside of the sight and merely paints a white ring around the lamp on the outside of the sight. In less that a year of shooting and cleaning the white ring on my Trijicon sight was completely gone. Now for the Meprolight sights, I have been running those on the same pistol for nine years and they still burn bright and look great after thousands of rounds and a lot of cleanings. The white aiming ring is what helps you in twilight / not super bright shooting where it is still too bright for the tritium to help you but too dark to rely on a blacked out front sight post. I also think the Meprolight sights cost less then the Trijicons.

Yea I mean I've notied there bright, but not as bright as I thought they would be when I bought them. They do look good though. Whats nice is the trijicons from what it sound last just a bit longer than the meprolights. But yea they are a tad cheaper, 10-15 dollars or so. With Trijicon, the whole different color rear sights sometimes lowered the illumination, green being the longest lasting one (12 years?). I'm assuming its the same for mepro?

Yea I'm sure they look good on a 1911. I'm wondering now if I should get matching green like on my Sig Sauer or orange/yellow for rear and green front.

Ever considered Heinie Sights? I have the Slant 8's night sight on my Glock 23 & 27. My Glock 35 has Heinie rear sight and a Dawson fiber optic sight.

Or look them up on Brownells because they might be a bit cheaper. IMPO

They work great on my Kimber. Very bright still after 7 years. I prefer them to the trijicons on my glock.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

I have both Trijicon and Meprolight night sights, both are 3-dot green color. The Mep's are on my Kimber, the Trij's are on my Glock. Both have a manufacturer date of 2010. They both look pretty much exactly the same when you look at them in the dark. But when you put them side by side in the complete darkness, the Mep's are slightly brighter than the Trij's. But you wouldn't notice this unless you had them side by side to each other. Otherwise, they look the same.

The other main difference is the clarity and sharpmess of the Trij's over the Mep's. The Mep's are actually kind of blurry looking, where as the Trij's are sharper and are more of a true green dot. Again, you wouldn't notice this unless you were looking at both side by side. If I had to choose one of the other, I'd take the Trij's. But if money is your concern, then get the cheaper ones.

Yea I'm leaning a bit more toward the Trijicons. I mean they do seem really fine in the actual glow and sights. I'm wondering what the life difference is on actual colors though. I remember reading somewhere how basically it goes down 2 years or so for every color not green?
