My sig 226 in 9mm was shooting consistenlty low so I figured that before changing out the rear sight, I could simply file down the front sight blade. So I've done that so that it shoots at POA now. However the front sight blade is pretty low profile. It seems to me a bit harder to pick up the blade against the target. Is this a known disadvantage to having a lower front sight blade as opposed to having a standard height front and higher rear sights, or is it just a question of getting used to what I have?

Sights on SIG 226

Check the number on the sights. I think the standard Sig 226 9mm is a number 8. Also, know that you should be covering what you want to hit with the dot of the front sight. If you use a bullseye/6:00 hold, they will shoot low. Use the search function here. Folks smarter than me have covered this in great detail with better explainations and diagrams. -
I've asked this question before and the consensus on that thread at that time, was that the point of Impact should be at the top of the front sight blade NOT covered by the dot on the front sight. So for target and defense purposes I'll pose it again : should I train with the point of impact being covered by the dot of the front sight or should I train with the point of impact AT the top of the front sight blade (not a 6 o clock hold on a round bull, this would be a center hold)? Which is more efficient and consistently accurate.Comment

Target guns normally have the 6 o'clock hold and Defensive guns cover the target hold.. If you want to change sights CDNN has their Sig front & rear sights on sale for about $10 for four (2 front& 2 rear) My favorite in 40/45 combo is #10 rear with #5 front (shoots slightly high) and are easy to pick up, (rear is tall).. Have fun, JimComment
