    Glock 20SF question

Hi, I just got back from the range with my new Glock 20SF. It was my first time taking this one out. It fires very well with 5 different types of ammo used. I did get a jam with Hornady and GA and it lead me to ask this question. When I took the slide off it appears that the guide rod and spring almost fall out from where its pushed in. When I put it back in it seemed tight but when you take slide off it seems to be half way unhooked. Is this normal? I did not notice this on my G17. I also was concerned with the 2 FTF in the 300 rounds that I fired. I shot BVAC, GA, Hornady, Remington, and CCI Blazers. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Normal

I'am guessing Hornady hollow points..?..that will happen on occasion with their 10MM. I've run 600 rounds in a two day period thru my GLOCK 20 without a single problem. Reloads, Blazer, some old Winchester Silver tip, Remington green box, Ammo Brothers, Double-Tap ($)...these GLOCK 20s eat all types without a hitch.

The plastic guide rod/spring should be about 1/2 off when you remove the slide. When you install the slide push it into the ledge fully....it will work no problem. Two things you might consider are a 17 pound and 21 pound spring/stainless rod assembly. 17 pounders are what you have now. The 21 pounder is for the HOT Double-Tap or Hunting ammo that is loaded up above 1350 FPS...it adds some stiffness to the slide while reducing felt recoil and insures positive next-round chambering (faster) when shooting a rapid string. (and otherwise). (with hot ammo)

Blazer and some others you mentioned are only flying at 1150 FPS or so. But that's plenty of Foot Pounds of enery for most anything you want to do. (except take down a Chevy with 5 bald drive-by-wannabee's) For that we have Double-Tap.. .....(j/k)

    Enjoy that weapon....add a .40 barrel. Add a 9X25 barrel for fun..Add a .357 sig barrel...Add a .22 conversion kit....that weapon is very flexible

Oh...go ahead and get into reloading the 10MM...I just did. Fun stuff.

Welcome to 10MM. Now go sign the Wal Mart Petition below. Thanks!

Thanks Bob for the tips and yes the Hornady was HP in 155 and 180 grain. What ammo do you recomend for self defense?

I also forgot to mention I did get a 6" Lone Wolf barrel in .40. It worked great but looked a little funny with how it sticks out.

Well, in the old days a normal .45 Caliber, 230 grain round nose hardball bullet was considered the perfect round for War and Self Defense. Moving at about 700 FPS.

In todays world people love the fast moving hollow point. The problem with hollow point is it 'sometimes' has feeding issues. (especially in .40 SW; that short round has issues and is more sensitive to mag-spring tension/feed ramp polishing etc)

The Glock 20 really has no issues with hollow points (almost)

So anything DOUBLE TAP makes is a good self defense round. Lately I've been carrying this 200 Grain (not hollow point) round; it feeds perfectly in my GLOCK 20s and my GLOCK 29....and really penetrates well. It's wide and powerful; moving at 1300 FPS (for a that weight, incredibly fast)

Or any of Double-Taps other defense rounds would work. As I just started hand loading 10mm, I've been running some 155 Grain round nose, flat head bullets at around 1350 FPS..easy to shoot and plenty fast. I've yet to load up some 180 Grain XTP hollow points; I did get the recipe for this round but probably won't build any until next week.

One thing about sticking out 6 inches; you can always get out the hacksaw.

        Here's mine..One 6 inch in .40----the other 6 inch in 9X25

        9X25...fun stuff....2000 FPS...Red Dot

And my Glock 29 with the DOUBLE TAP 200 grain bullets I posted above
(Storm lake barrel...not working well. Normal barrel works perfectly)

You are not getting 1300 fps with Double Tap (unfortunately). More like 1100 which still isn't bad for a 200 grain bullet. I have a small collection of the DT w/ Hornady XTP bullets and have had nothing but reliability. I'm honestly a bit shocked the OP had a FTRTB with the Hornady loaded XTP's. Hornady makes good SD rounds. So is the CorBon DPX although it's a slower moving (by 10mm standards) 155 grain bullet but this bullet seems to perform very well in real-life tests. I plan on getting these when I can for home defense and leaving the 200 grain deep penetrators for woods carry.

I think you're correct....I have not Chronographed any Double-Tap ammo.

I do have some 180 grain XTPs that I am looking forward to loading. I don't know what powder I will be using...maybe 800X...maybe Longshot..hmmmm.
