My only problem with glocks are the safety mechanism.

For me personally, the one thing I concur with California about is the drop test. and ensuring weapons have good safety mechanisms.

my CS45 has a thumb safety. I keep one in the chamber now always but keep the safety on which will require me to take the safety off in an emergency.

The glock has a trigger safety, which I guess is fine. but I like the dual safety mechanics on the XD. the grip safety and the trigger safety.

Besides, all my high capacity pre-ban block mags are locked up and prefer to leave them that way

Seriously. I've never seen an M&P45 that didn't have serious feeding and ejection issues. S&W's customer service is good though, but why not get a gun that's built right the first time AND is built by a company with good customer service?

XD all the way. I have the tactical and the only caution I'd give you is handle it a lot before you take the plunge- they're a little heavy in the front end (more front-heavy than my SA MCO 1911) and some of my friends have commented that it's easier for them to shoot their 4" XD45s over the 5".

This is hard to believe, MasterYong, I prefer XD's, but not cuz M&P's are garbage. Quite the contrary.

          Glock's Safe Action
is as safe as it gets. The testing for Glock safety was the most rigorous out there. Glocks have been thrown at walls, dropped off roofs, run over by trucks and more.
The ONLY way to make that gun go off is to pull the trigger and NO amount of external safeties will prevent a negligent discharge if you don't keep your finger off the trigger.

Probably the most tested and proven safety in the world. Consider more Police Departments, Military (World Wide) Homeland Security and the FBI carry GLOCK pistols.

            They work, PERIOD.!

No grip safeties to worry about, no THUMB action required before firing, no FTF or FTE problems....Hi Caps are normal in a GLOCK.

Just like a revolver, a GLOCK only fires when you PULL THE TRIGGER.

My Glock .45s can carry 10, 13 or 17 (with extension) round mags. That alone makes a huge difference. Glocks are similar in size; see photo.

So the only reason to dismiss a GLOCK is it doesn't fit your hand; either the stock frame or short frame. If you don't like the way it fits, then get somethinig that feels better. For me Glocks fit perfectly.

Glock 21 with a full size 1911 (Colt National Match series 70)

My Favorite .45 GLOCK..a Glock 30 with a 13 round Magazine. Small and very accurate. No grip safety, no magazine safety, it eats everything.

For me I choose the cd over glock at that time because I had a lot of nephews and the double safety was good in case anything happen... They wouldn't be able to fire a shot unless the held the gun right, not that they could ever get the gun but we all know how perfect this world is, right?
I also thought about gun fights where if we got into a grappling match placing my hand in a different position the threat won't be able to fire the gun off if he/she tried to, but then again, it's a perfect world so that'll never happen too, right?
The next reason is that it'll force me to shoot proper. Why create bad habits when you can learn right from the get-go?

Those were te reason why I picked it over the glock, but all three guns mention here are great guns!

                Love my XD 45 5".
Both the XD & M&P are good guns.
Glocks don't point naturally for me as does the XD, M&P, 1911.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

Congrats on your XD, I have 3 of them I think they shoot and feel great. I have no experience with the M&P but I did hold a Glock when I was looking to get my .45 and it did not feel right. By the way, Glocks are not the only ones that can hold 13 rounds. If you ever leave Kali, you can get your self some 13 rounders. Glock guys are funny, they buy in to their own fud.
