    Removing Barrel

Say you made a modification to a barrel which made it unable to be removed from the slide when disassembling for cleaning etc. What negative impact would that have?

I could probably get around the barrel for cleaning(enough play to where I could get something around inside there), so short-term isnt too big a deal.

But what about long-term? I probably wont ever have enough money to shoot enough rounds to need a replacement barrel. And even if I needed to replace the barrel far down the road it wouldnt be a big deal.

Long-term effects? Short-term effects? Anything im overlooking or not considering?

Well what kind of gun is this? What is the point of modifying the slide so that the barrel cannot be removed? Basically Revolvers have fixed barrels. I believe most auto pistols need to have the slide move away from the barrel in order to eject the brass casing and insert a new cartridge after the gun has been fired.

I'm guessing you are referring to some sort of perminently attached comp/brake?

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I need to pin a collar to a threaded barrel for legality. Once the collar is on the barrel I cant slide it out from the slide, the width exceeds the opening on the slide. There is some play so I can angle it out a bit.

I could get a new barrel, but was just wondering bout this one. New barrel is plan B

            Thanks Guys

So long as the installation stays sound, it shouldn't be a problem. Clean the bore as normal, only from the front. As to cleaning the exterior of the barrel and chamber within the slide, Gun Scrubber (or similar) and your old toothbrush will be your friends. An ultrasonic cleaning tank, found at some ranges, is a huge help as well.

Why not just have the threads machined off?

Seems like you don't want to let that threaded brrel go. Do I sense a Mark 23? Hmmm?

Where are you located? If you're close, I can turn down the thread protector to match the OD of the barrel. Then just red loctite it on. That is sufficent for removing the threaded barrel status.

Otherwise, have a local machine shop do it. Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks. It's a 2 minute job.
