Never hear anybody recommending it. Is it that bad? Anybody has experience with 01980XSE model?

Colt 1911

There's nothing wrong with Colts, especially the XSE. There are just so many makers to choose from Colts seem to get overshadowed. I do find them to cost a bit more than I put value to. Their slide to frame fit is a little looser than comparable makers, and the edges are usually sharp. The XSE duckbill is a minor complaint, along with the fit to the frame tangs.
Overall I find Colt 1911s to be great pistols, but a bit overpriced for what you get. But, I say that as a Colt owner. -
Ditto... if given a choice among all the 1911s on the market, I would go with a Colt. Some women demand diamonds... yeah, well, I'm perfectly happy with a Colt

i read somewhere that colts are built looser for reliability reasons. i've never owned a colt, but my rock island is pretty loose and i've had no issues with it.There's nothing wrong with Colts, especially the XSE. Colts rock. My 1952 Commercial is awesome, and my XSE Combat Commander is fantastic. While I prefer the older Colts, my XSE is as well made and shoots as well as any.
There are a lot of Colt stories (I wish I had a buck for every time I heard Colt was out of, or about to be out of business) about poor QC, sloppy fit, etc. I'm sure it happens, but they've been making the 1911 pistol since darn near February 14, 1911 (JMB's patent date), so they're bound to have put out some pistols with issues.
Oh, and check resale prices and the length of time a Colt 1911 stays on the market. They're tops.Comment

COLT! I love my Series 80 - rock solid performance, classic lines, great deep blueing, and accurate as hell.
There is somthing about that horse that is classic.Comment
