so i am looking at S&W 686's. there are a lot of them out there available used, but on the roster all i see are 686-6/7. does that mean i cant buy any other 686 out there other than the current -6/7 model?? most sites just say 686 too.

The firearm that is being bought must be on the roster.... so anything else than the following is a no-go in California unless it's a PPT or you are exempt from the roster

the -6 and -7 are just the current version best thing to do is ask the FFL you are using what their policy is -

Older 686 on GB.... if the gun is already in California (PPT), if you are a person exempt from the roster, or you can get a middleman out of state to make the revolver a single action only which can be imported.

I could be mistaken but I believe the firing pin left the hammer with the -6 model, hence it is on the roster. MUCH safer, dontcha know... Might also be the Klinton lock?
I don't believe any of the old S&W revolvers are actually on the roster. If they're not in the Republik already...
hehe.... I scored a 4" 686 no dash yesterday... If it makes ya feel better I paid WAy too much for it.
