What is the best 1911 to buy?

I have been wanting to get a handgun for a while now, I own a Remington 870 Express 12 gauge Shotgun and a Remington 700 SPS Varmint 22-250 Rifle and feel a Handgun would be a good fit. A 1911 is #1 on my list right now and a close second is a Ruger P345 .45 caliber. I'm looking to spend no more than $700. I know there are many models of the 1911 and may companies that make their 1911 model, just not sure which brand would be the best for my price range. Any suggestions on weather I should go with Ruger or 1911...and if 1911 which make. Thanks.

Are you willing to get a nice used one? or will it have to be BNIB?

For the price go with the RIA tactical model. For 700 if your willing to go used try to find a SA loaded or a nice colt

A used 1911 would be your best bet with that budget. 

You can probably get yourself a nice Kimber Custom II for that price range if you shop around.

I got a used (purchased only 3 months after the original owner. I even had the pleasure of putting the idiot mark on it myself) Springfield Black stainless Loaded model for $800 out the door. Great deal, great shooter.

I was going to suggest a used Sprinfield Loaded operator.. I sold one with very few rounds though it for $700 a while back.

+1 on a used SA Loaded. I have seen them here in The Marketplace for about $600. That way you'll have $100 or so for ammo and the inevitable magazine collection you'll be starting.

Buy a used 1911 that has the highest MSRP or new gun store price.
$700 doesn't buy you much in a 1911 any more.

You should be able to find a good used 1911 for under 700. Personally, I would rather have a good used pistol than a cheap new one, JMO!

Used is ur best bet, that's a tough budget for a 1911

Used is the best way to go at that budget and you can get great deals at that price point. I picked up this SA Champion for $550 and this Loaded A1 for $600 with boxes/papers and 5 mags total.

Tough to get a nice new 1911 for less than $700. If you can go just a LITTLE bit more options open up quite a bit.

A used Springfield loaded is a good choice, and if you get lucky you can find a nice one under $700. Easier to find used for less than $700, and still great guns are the SW 1911 line.

Used Sig Sauer GSRs come up now and again for $700ish and are great guns.

I'm not a big fan of the newer model Colts. They are a bit rough around the edges, but are a great base to build on if that is your thing.
