I just got my 1050 up and running with Unique....I have some 18 year old stuff, a pound so I'am gonna use it for my wad cutter .45 range ammo.

5.2 grains, about 750 FPS and it feeds in my Glock 21. (and my 1911s)

Here are the first 21 rounds done an hour ago. She pumps out a new bullet every 2.5 seconds. 200 Grain Semi-Wad Cutter, copper plated lead.

Old, old shaby brass that I found in a baggie with dead spiders and grud...I vibrated them for 2 hours to get them shiny. hahah.still work..

I wouldn't use Unique for 10MM. I'am looking for some Accurate No. 7 for that. I did buy some Power Pistol and I already have some Accurate No. 4 that I am using for 10MM..seems fine..1350 FPS with 10 grains on a 155 GR bullet...

Blue dot. It's what I've helped load with on a 10mm recently. Max loads fill the case to capacity and are slightly compressed during seating (Not enough to cause problems).

Seems to have a pretty wicked variety of applications as well.

You mean the ".40 S&W" (technically the proper name of that round) is really the .40 Short & Weak!

your 610 uses moon clips, iirc, and can fire .40s&w safely. they are two distinctly different cartridges, however.

.40s&w is not to be used in an automatic, unless you want to destroy your brass, rip your primers open and lose velocity, or generally just want to have a poor shooting experience.. (unless you get your hands on one of those special pistols that is designed to shoot both, as mentioned in that thread.)

Why would you destroy your brass and rip open the primers? I could see a small amount of velocity loss compared to shooting in a 40 barrel.

when the shot is fired, the brass recoils faster than the firing pin, perforating the primer. the brass is then "melted in the rear" from the gas and pressure. its right in that link.

im just making sure that the .40 caliber auto pistol round can be fired out of the 10mm S&W 610 am i correct?

Yes, it will go bang when you squeeze the trigger.

I'd advise you to learn hiow to reload, and develop a 10mm load that is affordable and accurate, and leave the .40 rounds for emergency use only.

I shoot magnum caliber wheelguns now and then, and stick with magnum case reloads or factory mag ammo for the most part. Firing the shorter cases through the longer chambers just increases the cleaning job, and it doesn't really improve accuracy or effectiveness.

The only benefit I can see is in training new shooters and getting them accustomed to the mechanics of shooting before introducing them to the heavier caliber.

Just read an article on wiki about this but want to do more research. Seems .40 is not a bad round. Will need to research more but this is definitely a round that has me interested in its pros and cons.

Apparently there are similarities but there are some failures if you do not understand the dimension differences.

.40 S&W when loaded hot is on-par with 10mm's that are sold by MOST factory distributors.

This is becuse 10mm factory ammo is loaded near the very bottom of its specs (for the same reason the .40s&w was created to begin with... people are sissies about 10mm). When you get real 10mm ammo, you start seeing some power.

I have an older 610 - 6.5" bbl and no MIM. What do folks get for accuracy with the 40 out of it? That's a pretty long jump with no rifling, does it matter?

I'll admit, I've fired .40 in my 1006 to see how well it fed and functioned. It worked just fine in my pistol but not a recommended practice!
