    M&P40 range report

Took my new M&P40 Pro (w/apex sear and trigger spring) to the range Saturday. Low 60's, some drizzle-500 rounds of 180gr Federal and 50 rounds of 165gr RA40TA Ranger- targets set up at 25ft.
Pro's- awesome pistol, great fit, great sights, ran through 550 rounds without a hiccup. It is accurate and outshot me. Accuracy was greatly improved with the higher velocity Ranger ammo.
    Con's- me! I failed in using the tip of my finger so I really pulled most of my shots. Here are my excuses;
#1 I am not bright enough to maintain the correct technique.
#2 I only had the small grip which added to my failure of finger position. I will go large next time.
#3 I was alternating with a Sig 229 9mm with the short trigger.
So a do-over is in order. I will have the rest of my DCAEK in by then along with the RAM, and YES, I have fired both and I find the Apex parts to offer improvement for minimal investment.

    Thanks for sharing.

M&Ps are supposed to be great pistols and it sure sounds like it.

Ive had my DCAEK and RAM installed in my M&P9 3 weeks ago and still haven't been to the range to test it out....i bet its awesome. From dry firing, it feels like a diffrent pistol.

Put 350 rounds through my M&P 40 today and it shot amazing. Shot at 7, 10, 15, and 25 yards. I'm a big fan of the sights and the changable grips. My only complaint is the trigger reset is a little long, other than that an amazing pistol.

Not to thread jack, but I just picked up my M&P9 on Friday and put 400rds through it over the weekend. GREAT pistol! I'm pretty sure the 40 and the 9 are the most common with the 45 being a different pistol. +1 for the M&P series!

The Apex stuff is great and Randy actually answered the phone and sent me a newer style (bigger for a bigger plunger hole) sear plunger spring- no questions asked.
I have been reducing my collection (no more than 2 of any caliber) while keeping quality pistols that I enjoy shooting, and the M&P is a keeper. I am going to do a shoot off with my xdm40 when it gets back with its trigger job.

                    re-do today....
went straight to the large grip assuming I would go medium but shot perfectly with the large. Dead on accurate and super fun. One thing I noticed- slide closes when I slap the mag in. Not complaining just threw me off a bit.

My 40 full size does that also, my 40c does not. Still not sure if its a good or bad thing.

Some would call this a "feature".

The trick is to make sure you are hitting the magazine at almost exactly 45-degrees in the "forward" direction. The slide jumps off the slide lock and chambers the first round in one motion. No joke, it has to be almost exactly 45-deg or it won't work.

There was a lot of discussion a while back whether this is a feature or a liability. I believe in some applications, it has caused the M&P to be excluded as a candidate due to this behavior.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Beretta M9 shares this behavior, but I don't own one to test.
