Gun cleaning tip

I just picked up a very nice used revolver yesterday after the 10 day wait. It's a stainless S&W model 640 .357mag pre-lock snub revolver and it was in excellent condition with the exception of carbon build-up all over the front face of the cylinder, inside the cylinder charge holes and around the barrel/cylinder (B/C) gap. I tried scrubbing the areas with Hoppe's #9 and some bronze brushes but the stains still remained.

I recently bought a container of Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish at WalMart to polish another revolver I have. I was very surprised at the results it gave. Just a little elbow grease left the revolver significantly shinier and more attractive looking. I decided to see what the Mother's polish would do to the carbon buildup. To my surprise, applying the polish with a microfiber towel and some light rubbing removed all of the carbon buildup and left the front of the stainless steel cylinder looking brand new and shiny. I used the Mother's polish after cleaning the gun normally with a solvent. The polish cleans stainless steel far better than I've ever seen before so I thought I'd share this tip with everyone else here.

I know some Calguns members think it's cool to have a dirty gun and neglect it to see how much abuse it can take, but I'm one of the clean-after-each-use guys that likes to have well maintained-clean guns, so here's a tip I discovered today that I'm passing on to everyone else that will clean your stainless steel revolver to like-new condition.

That's interesting. I recently purchased a Birchwood Casey Lead Removing Cloth, and was pleasantly surprised by how well it works. It does have a similar aroma to the Mother's product, come to think of it.
