    conversion kits

Are .22lr conversion kits for a Colt 1911 series 70 a worthy investment and are some brands better than others? Pros and cons? Thanks.

I bought one for my Kimber and I am pretty irritated by it. I have to manually cycle the slide because it just doesn't seem to cycle by itself. I have tried different ammo but it still works like a POS. Sorry.

I had a Kimber kit and on my second trip to the range the rear adjustable sight fell off the slide... Not really a big deal since all was needed was to tighten the set screw down, but annoying nonetheless. It was fun while it worked but it was really picky with ammo and would only work with high velocity ammo.

If you are going to get one, save up and get the Marvel .22 conversion. Very accurate and a quality unit.

I have a couple of .22 conversions for my 1911's. The best one so far is my Marvel Unit 1. Extremely accurate and reliable, although it took a while to get the bugs out.

I just pickd up an Advantage Arms unit. I'm still working on finding some ammo it likes.

What kind of conversion do you have?

I have the one made by Kimber. I guessed incorrectly that they would have figured out how to make their conversion kit work on their gun.

Not likely since Ciener is the one making these units for Kimber. Mine cycled fine with high velocity .22 ammo, as indicated in the manual.

I have a Ciener. It is very picky about ammo. It is also very particular about being clean. If I keep it clean and use ammo it likes, it cycles well and is very accurate.

I've got one from Kimber. If I'm not mistaken, the newer units are not made by Ceiner. Works fine with my Springfields and a Colt using Federal Bulk Pack. The only problem I've come across is the magazines won't fit in a gun fitted with an extended magwell. I believe the Marvel is more accurate, but you might have a hard time getting them to work 100%. I use my conversion for fun every now and then, but when it comes to a match, I'll use my 22/45.

My Marvel didn't function reliably in the beginning either. It required a several hundred round break-in and some magazine tweaking before it ran to my satisfaction.

I recently chnaged from a Colt Series 70 frame to a Rock Island Armory frame. It took a little bit of tweaking the ejector to get the Marvel to run properly again.

Most .22 conversions are a little finicky. The target conversions like the Marvel, Kart, Day, and others can sometimes be a real pain to get running properly because of the close tolerances they have.
