AR pistol questions

It is my understanding that you can put a forward grip on an AR pistol as long as it has a bullet button installed. Correct? If that's the case, then all the "evil" features associated with semi-auto pistols are ok as long as a BB is installed? Or do they have to be in single shot config?

I have read 12276.1 but I just want confirmation that I am reading it correctly.

It is my understanding that you can put a forward grip on an AR pistol as long as it has a bullet button installed. Correct? No. That would create a Federally regulated AOW (Any Other Weapon). The Federal permit process for this requires CA DOJ approval IIRC and is very, very difficult to obtain in CA.

All "evil" features other than a forward pistol grip are legal. A magazine lock is required as AR pistols accept magazines outside the pistol grip. When first sold or constructed, the pistol must be in compliance with current CA law for single-shot pistols. Once you have taken delivery or completed construction in a compliant configuration, you may replace the single-shot "sled" with a magazine of no greater than 10 rounds' capacity.

As Grumpyoldretiredcop mentioned, installing a VFG on a pistol creates a federally regulated AOW. But if you want one, it isn't too hard, just takes an approved Form 1 (and $200) and a sign-off from your local CLEO. If he won't sign, then it just takes drafting up a Trust and then CLEO sign-off is not needed.

Ok got it, it's a federal law. I thought it wasn't legal but the state law can be misleading.

Gotta know all your bases. Most websites I've seen advertising their AR pistols include a note that mentions if you put a VFG or buttstock on it, it needs to be federally registered as a SBR.

If you used an AFG that would be OK. Search AFG on Draco pistol, there should be a letter from the ATF regarding this option.

The ATF is not the CADOJ. I would not put any type of forward grip on an AR pistol unless you have plenty of money for a strong defense if you end up on the wrong side of an overly-zealous law enforcement officer.

what CA crime would you have commited if you put a forward grip on an AR-pistol? rememer that that AR-pistol already has a maglock on it because of the magazine residing outside the pistol grip issue. And Forward grips are only CA-regulated on pistols that have a detachable magazine, which a CA-legal AR-pistol wouldn't have.
