Display guns sold?

Buying my first handgun this afternoon. Maybe an odd question, but my OCD will bother me if they happen to sell me a display gun, sadly, because I'm just quirky like that. Is this common that they do so? Should I specifically ask for a non display gun? Any disadvantages, such as being dry fired etc etc? I was thinking of heading to Turners.

Some gunshops only sell display guns. Larger chain stores will carry an inventory, such as Turners Outdoorsman. I don't have a problem with a display gun, I'll look it over closely before doing the DROS.

If you're at a Turners and they don't have any in their warehouse, you can request a small discount and chances are good they'll give it to you. It won't work with a small mom & pop shop though, what you see is what you get.

I'm like you, I wouldn't want one of the display case ones. If it's the absolute last one and I really wanted the gun then I'd consider it but if they have some in the back, then I want one from the back.

I just buy the display guns. The worst that has happened to them at the shop that I go to is that people hold them and drop the magazine. The shop zipties the trigger and the hammers (if it has one) together so that the slide can't be pulled back.

I can honestly say I have yet to see this. Even the owners always dry fire and break the gun down for me. Maybe because they know that I'm new to firearms.

If they do have an inventory in the back, just tell them that you want the boxed one, not the display model. Unless they're cutting you some really good deal on a display model, then you should ask for a new one.

Usually the Display Guns are fine

Lately some of them have a TY_WRAP around the action.

It depends on how RARE the weapon is; I bought a display GLOCK in Olive Drab.....none existed in the backroom. No problems.

You can usually tell if a weapon has any abuse. I dislike Revolvers that are brand new that have the 'wear circle' around the cylinder already; as if the GUN STORE people have been cocking and dry firing it all day.

WOW I have always bought the display model. It's because most of our GSs are mom and pop like you said. They don't carry a large inventory and what you see is what you get. Know they can order a new one for you but your going to pay more. I don't know why maybe it has something to do with shipping just one gun compared to getting their normal shipment.

i would never buy guns that has been ziptied. you will never know the frame to slide fitment if you can't rack the slide. every gun has a different fitment. most obvious on 1911 models. it might be the same manufacturer and model but they are not 100% identical to each other.

If the Turner's you go to doesn't have a new one in the backroom, you can ask if they have one at their warehouse. If they do, they can transfer it to their store and can start the 10 day wait right then since they will be able to plug in the serial number.
