I just find 4" barrels to be all around handier and lighter to holster carry than 5" models. The 4" has enough sight radius to make it easy to shoot accurately, plus it complies with the rules of more competitions than the 5" model. I guess to condense the reason to one word it would be "versatility".

"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

Not really, but I've been wanting an 8 shot revolver in .357 and this thing looks drop dead gorgeous. Why do I prefer the snubbie over the longer barrel, "just because"

BTW, the issue of American Handgunner with the XDM-45 on the cover, it has an article on the S&W PC "big bore snubbies" in .357, .41 and .44.

I have the 627 5" PC. Very nice revolver, the balance is just the way I like it (slightly front heavy).

The trigger needs some work though. The single action is great, but the double action pull is not what is should be, coming from the PC.

True, I did think about that too. Although I ultimately came to the conclusion if I wanted to compete on production level with a revolver, I'm better off getting a six shooter. Not sure which org does which rules.. but it seems like one has it so you can only load 6 at a time and the other has it so you have to reload after 6 shots. Kinda defeats the purpose of a 8 shot, but I guess I can see why they'd do that to be fair. I may ultimately just get another GP100 in 4" as I originally did want to open the possibility of using this as a competition piece.. but reading in the rules more really turned me off on it.

Yea.. interestingly enough, I've read the same on a few other forums about the DA.

Send it back, with a semi-stern letter asking them if this is truly representative of the quality that comes from their custom shop.

Nice looking grips. I have Nils on one of my P7m8's but not any revolvers. Do speedloaders clear the grips ok?

I think I might go with 4" if I go with one. More pics of em.. the barrel length looks just right for the diagonal slab.

The quality on the PC guns IMO have slipped. My second PC gun was the 627-5. On my 627-5, there was a large tool mark (gouge) on the side of the front sight ramp. The rubber grip didn't fit right. The wood grip was basically a semi-finished block of wood. The gun was sent back for "repairs" & it came back in a better condition & with new grips. I still have not gotten around to take it to the range yet since getting it a few years ago.

My first PC gun was the K-Comp which I love. I wish I was a little smarter & richer back then as I would have gotten two of them.

Amazing deal! Turner's here has it for $1149 new.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!
