buying a used gun on that's consignment?

Last week I bought revolver from Turners and they told me there would be 30 days hold on a consignment gun before dros even starts. According to them it's a state law to make sure a gun isn't stolen.
Ok, my question: is it really a state law or is it just Turners way of covering their *****. I always thought you could trace a stolen gun with just a phone call???

Luckily my dear wife was with me and talk me into waiting................. Gotta love her!

Just bumped into this on a consignment gun at my local gun shop. Guy dropped off an older Savage bolt gun. I put it on a back shelf about two days later. Has to sit until the 17th before I can pick up the rifle. It's like extra jail time.

My guy at the store said Stockton PD clarified it for them at a new training. Apparently it's been on the books for quite a while, but SPD hasn't been checking for it. I'm wondering exactly how many cops our cash strapped city is going to put on this detail instead of violent crimes.

A. Yes. Secondhand dealers and pawnbrokers shall retain all personal property reported under Business & Professions Code section 21628.2 for a period of 30 days from the date of the report in FDAS. (Business & Professions Code section 21636.) The 30-day retention period commences on the date the dealer report of firearm acquisition was electronically submitted to the BOF via FDAS.

I went thru the same thing last night. I put a deposit on a gun, but can't DROS it until 12/27. It's the law.

are face to face and have no holds. Just the normal 10 Day Dros process.

What some Gun Stores are doing now is 'displaying' a private weapon in their case. If someone wants it, they call the owner down to the store for a PPT.

These Gun Stores with the 30 day hold problem have a PAWN License; hence the wait.

What OB said. In the case of the particular the gun I picked last night, it was part of a large collection with owner now out of state.
Works fine for me, it's just like layaway.
