Second form of address proof = scam

I paid 1350 for a custom gun, had it assembled and shipped to ca only to be told by the gun shop that i can not buy a gun without more proof of my address.

funny i have purchased 5 other guns this year.... never had a problem until now.

    what do you do?

house and power in house mates name.

    Do not own a car.

    suggestions?

I asked them to send it back and refund me.

anyone with experience here chime in it will be appreciated

Requirements for handguns is different then longguns. Handguns require proof of residency other then your DL. Your DL must also have a physical address that matches the address you gave on the 4473.

Ah your drivers license or CA ID???? As long as I can remember you've always had to show 2 proof of addresses for pistols. Were your other guns this year so far long guns????

ETA: Dang some of you guys are fast from the time I clicked to reply to post this. There none and now already 2 replies......

does your DL/ID have your current address on it?

If so, get a lease agreement from your house mate and you would be covered.

I had to show my DL and a utility bill with my name and same address.

I think it's idiotic as well and the OP's case shows another point that the requirement blows. I can have a DL to an address that is not mine as well as my vehicle registration, bank account, cell phone bill and gym membership. Should have had the gun sent to a shop with cute employees, invite them over to show them where you live!
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

Hand gun or long gun? CA demands that handgun buyers provide proof of residency other than CA ID card or CA DL, long guns just require ID with current address to satisfy the feds.

                See here for acceptable docs.

                Some suggestions:
                - Get the house mate to sign a rental agreement with you and have it notarized.
                - Get a 03 FFL to use as proof of residency for future purchases.
                - Ask your dealer what else they'd accept. If you have a driver's license you can get a DMV printout of your driving record for $5 which most will accept.

don't knock the law... it's obviously intended to prevent masochistic Nevadans from coming into California and attempt to obtain a handgun through convoluted and invasive liberal agenda laws! "It's for your own protection... now spread them for your freedom grope"

I went to purchase a Supernova recently (after purchasing several firearms from the same location) and I got a bit of a run around. My loft rental is month to month so there is no move out date, can't use that. My utilities/etc are included in my rent so I don't get a bill. Car inchurance just expired and won't pass smog yet so even though my registration is paid for and it all shows my valid current address they won't accept it. I even had the DMV print something out that showed that days date with the address they have on file which matches all the other DROS I've done there. My license shows my old address, and I've filed for a change and updated card several times but never received one...

Is there anything I can get from the DMV that is absolute proof of my current address?

Why do people continue to think our Draconian laws are "idiotic?"

They are NOT idiotic and the people making them are NOT stupid.

Part of their agenda is disarming the citizens. Making it hard for us to buy guns is good progress for them...

They're being overly cautious, the registration is current regardless of whether you have insurance or smog. Your DMV printout should work, as well, but that's dependent on the dealer.

Just curious, how would the dealer even know that your insurance lapsed or your car doesn't pass smog unless you told them? If registration is current that's all they need to know.

Edit: Just realized it's a long gun...that means the proof of residency requirements only have to meet federal standards (and only if your DL doesn't show your current address). Any gov't issued document should work including the DMV printout or a W-2.

just wave your hand in front of the clerk and say "you dont need to see my ID, these are not the droid your looking for." that should take care of it.

no kidding. It's not like this hasn't come up for them before, and there isn't a law against telling a customer the options.
