    Advise and Opinions needed.

What does the term: "Get a handgun that fits." mean to you.

I have heard this term and am not able to figure out the science.

Is it Lenght of Pull = distance of trigger finger to web of hand?

How your hand fits around the grib?

    Feel?

    Any ideas????

I hope to buy a new handgun soon and become proficient with it. I

understand practice / techniques are the key. I hope to take every

advanage of getting the learning curve to work for me.

    thanks,

It also depends on how well you shoot it. If i have two pistols one will feel better in the hand and one i will shoot better. It will not always be the same pistol. Thats why its best to throw some lead down range, the one you can shoot is the one that is your next pistol. Who cares about trigger pull, weight and any number of factors. If you shoot it well, buy it.

Best saying i heard. Regarding how to hold a pistol, "it does not matter if you shoot it weak handed tilted to the side while aiming under leg and hopping on one foot. If you can hit the 10 ring, use that position.

In other wards the pistol/car/etc that is best for you is the one that gets the job done the best while in your hands.

Thats my take in it, but i am sure others will disagree. Which is fine. Remember, holding a pistol that you are not used to shooting will feel different and if just because you dont like it right away does not mean it does not fit your hand.

it is about how it feels in you hand and how well your fingers wrap around it, but it has been my experience that most people actually don't understand when a gun correctly fits their hand...it isn't always natural, it really has to be demonstrated.

most folks will either pick a gun that is too large for them...because they like the way it fills their hand...or one that is too small...because it is handy.

        two personal examples are:
        1. the Browning Hi-Power, which felt great in my hand...and shot consistently low for me.
        2. the Beretta 92, which felt like a 2"x4" in my hand...and was amazingly accurate and smooth shooting
...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's Tale

Another thing about the fitting. Is how it naturally aims for you. There will be alot of practice getting the sights on target consistently. But you may notice that some handguns get you closer/right on, while others you are consistently fighting to keep the sights on target.

Close your eyes and point the gun at the target. Open your eye. How close were you?

Your confidence level with the gun will be the best aid to your over all accuracy. You will grow this over time, and after owning several guns. Your first gun is likely not to be the best "fit" for you. I own several, and I still don't think that I have found "The Gun." But, I know what I like, I know what I will try next (after much research.) That knowlage comes from putting a lot of rounds down range, and it's taken me awhile to get this far. I'm proficient with each gun, but still looking for the best "fit."

I will still keep my other guns...as long as my wife doesn't find out how many I acctually have... Unless I get one I really don't like, then I might sell one.

first gun I got was an P99 in .40s&w, it felt great. I took it to the range and it was very snappy! dint like it much so I ended up selling it, lost a good bit of money on it, but you live and learn huh? For me, I shot best with my 1911 and a XD 45. Think my next gun is gonna be the XD since I was stubborn and dint get one when I had the chance a few years back.

Feel and ability to shoot it.

A lot of these stories sound familiar. I shoot the Beretta 92fs the best, but it feels big in my hands. The Beretta and 1911 are difficult for me to reach the controls with my trigger hand. I usually, use my off hand to work the controls. Hey as long as you can hit the target that is all that matters.
