    SIG appraisal

Needs some estimates from you SIG die hards. Give me your educated guess on the value of a Made in West Germany Sig 228. We're talking a mint condition piece with 700 or so rounds down the pipe.

    Serial# B 199 XXX KD.

I'm not totally sure but I believe it's birth was in 1993 or 1994.

    Thanks in advance!

i am no Sig expert but from what have seen $700 to $750 is about the going rate
That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.

Is it just a plain jane P228? Not nickel or chrome (not even sure if there's a chrome one)?

Does it have the box, manual, and most importantly, the test target intact?

If so, you might get $700 to $800 in California. It will be cheaper in other states. Nickel will get you a little more. Not sure how much more since I don't like nickel guns and never paid attention to them.

$600-650ish. BTW, 700 rounds is not mint condition, lol.

I usually search Gunbroker for a similar gun if I want to get an approximation of a gun's value.

KD stamped under the slide chin? '93. Would fetch $500-550 out here. Probably has improved hammer rebound system and beefed up frame.

                  It's a keeper.

You're looking at 500-525 range depending on the overall condition.
Any surface rust on the carbon steel slide?
Does it include the original cardboard box and papers?

It's the black one. No rust of any kind. I do not have the carboard box or test target but I do have the original manual. Also, the KD is under the slide chin with a couple of other weird markings. Any idea what those mean?

Anyhow, from the responses there doesn't seem to be solid price range. I guess the worth is in the eye of the beholder.

                        I'm certainly no expert, but I love my 220, 225, and 228.

The other "weird marks" above the date code are the marks from the proof house: one looks like a blob with an N beneath it to indicate it was proofed with nitrocellulose powder. The other mark looks like a bug and is the mark of the Kiel proof house in Germany. There is also a bird with the N underneath it next to the serial number on the frame.

The question to ask yourself on the value is whether the serial numbers on the barrel, slide, and frame all match. If so, and the rails are shiny black or turning gold, you have a well maintained 228. I would think $600 - $650 would sell quickly... $700 - $750 would sell in time.
