I broke down and got one (TLR-1) yesterday. It fits the P229 nicely and at night I went on a tactical mission around the house in total darkness. It is very nice - very bright!

I have a TLR-1 on a Walther P99 for use in my home, besides my dresser. It does the job just as well as a Surefire, but without having to pay the extra dollar for the Surefire name. If I was in Afghanistan and sitting in dirt all day long in freezing weather,the Surefire might be a better choice.

That's where the SSL-1 comes in. Me wantee, as soon as I save enough pennies. Still cheaper than Surefire.

Once I start working steadily again I'm saving up for an x200a/b (don't know yet which one) and the ds-11 like greg has.

I love my surefire x200b.
It slips onto/ off of my GG&G slimline rail adapter form my H&K USP 40c easily. I pack it in my pocket while my H&K rides in a Gould a Goldrich belt holster. You can easily use the light as a hand flashlight (I often do) without scaring the hershey out of everyone (movie theater, unlocking doors at night, changing tires, etc..). I love that flashlight. I pissed and moaned about the price when I bought it, but it has paid off in the end. It does double duty on some of my other carry guns also.

I've used the Streamlight M6 varient with the laser several times and carried it on duty. It was very handy but complicated to use under stress and fragile. It was NOT water submersable and at the cost, a hard pill to swallow if you ever dunk your pistola with it on.

Streamlight TLR-1 is a decent light but go w/ TLR-2 (laser and light).

I like the Surefires though... In my opinion, it's a bit rugged than the TLRs...

But...

Why not go w/ the Insight Technologies M6X???

I have a tlr-1 my pops has a x200 b. The toggle switch on the x200 SUCKS, it is so damn stiff you almost have to take a hand off the gun to toggle it. To momentarly activate it you just push the switch forward instead of toggling up or down but that too takes a LOT of pressure and after pressing it for a minute your thumb is really fatigued. The beam on the x200b is really broad/wide and lights up a whole room while the TRL-1 is a more focused beam.The x200 is a little lighter but both are VERY well made and have lifetime warranties. Both are bright as hell but the tlr-1 burns for two and a half hours the x200 only one and a half. I'd say go TLR-1 cause the toggle switch is very smooth and operator friendly unlike the x200. I got my tlr-1 off ebay for $85.00 shipped

I like the TLR2 (same thing as TLR1 but comes with a laser). At the time they were only $199 shipped from Botac. I like how the switch is easy to use. You have the ability to do light only, laser only, or both light and laser.. and you have the ability for constant on.

I liked it so much that I bought 2! One for a handgun (currently on my XD) and one for my AR with the ACOG. The ACOG is very hard to use at CQB at 25 yards or less, so the laser of the TLR2 works perfect for scope mounted weapons.

I find SureFire products to be way overated. I bought a M600A Scout light for $300 and it cannot do anything more than the TLR2. But the TLR can do stuff it can't, the TLR has constant on and the TLR has a laser!
