    Removing a warning...?

I've got an billet frame for a 92fs and I want to remove the warning inscription on the right side forward of the trigger guard.

How should I do this without removing to much material and compromising the frame's integrity?

Be aware of CA PC 12090:

Any person who changes, alters, removes or obliterates the name of the maker, model, manufacturer's number, or other mark of identification, including any distinguishing number or mark assigned by the Department of Justice on any pistol, revolver, or any other firearm, without first having secured written permission from the department to make such change, alteration or removal shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison.

That being said, I don't believe a "warning" inscription applies. You have a couple options. You can machine it down to the depth of the engraving (not recommended as it would look odd to have a step in the frame). Filling the engraving and grinding/sanding flush is another option, but it's really a skill that is not easily performed. My advice would be to send it to a professional refinisher.

Is this a safety feature? Why remove it?

I would say it's probably better to fill and refinish than to cut/grind out.

It's not a safety feature, it's a warning engraved on the side of the gun. Probably put there to satisfy some politician's gun hate and it probably reads something like, "don't look into the hole and push the button."

          +1.
Milling the area out may not weaken the frame (those beretta 92 frames are pretty beefy) but it would look completely out of place and well... like someone milled out the warning.

            Well said.

And thanks to those of you who offered an opinion germane to my question. It is my plan now to have it filled and sanded.

in todays litigious atmosphere warning signs are a safety feature like putting no smoking signs near propane tanks

I thought you post was absolutely appropriate, it's the "safety feature" question that I was referring to. An though you idea makes sense and the M9 is a fine weapon of choice, I have a certain fondness for this particular 92 and have no plan of replacing it. I'm just not stoked on the scribble on the frame.

On that note, who sued a gun manufacturer and made it so now we're all subjected to an idiot warning?

(Talk about non-germane to the thread).
