I'm not very familiar with when those were made.
Need to know the year made. If pre 50 years ago then it is.

If it was made prior to 06-14-1957; then it's C&R.

I believe Walther P1's are considered modern.

Based on the price the seller was willing to settle for this pistol, it would seem that this pistol is a P38 and not a P1, which are usually $500+ and would be curio. P38s are not considered curio because it is not 50 years old yet.

Manhurins are French production, which may explain the lower price. FWIW, the last (German) P1 I saw was very competitively priced (around $350).

But I don't think that they are C&R. An original P-38 is, but as mentioned before, that is a pretty penny.

Please note that the P1 and P38 are slightly different.

The P1 has an aluminum alloy frame, while the original P38 has a steel frame. The P38 is considered better by collectors, and there's some discussion about whether the P1 will hold up to a steady diet of modern ammo. Apparently, there were late model (up until the 70s or so) ones made that were marked P38 on the slide but had allow frames, so there's a bit of confusion there. They're often date-stamped, which should clear up the C&R question.

Check out this site. If you compare the pistol in the auction to the ones on this site . it looks like it maybe a " HP " model before it was called a P38 pre war. Behind the take down lever there is a hex shaped imprint/imbedded nut on the newer versions..

The Walther on Gunbroker http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=73350000, you can clearly see it is printed Pistolet P1 on the slide.

I just bought one of these, $239 from Aim Surplus. The P1's are only on the DoJ roster until 08/ 21/ 07, and unless Century Arms International (importers) decides to resubmit it for another drop test, you won't be able to buy one in CA anymore.

I thought that in CA all pistols have to be DROSed, there is no such thing as curio and relic pistol in CA.
