    Docter sights on Sigs?

    Hey guys,

Let's get the easy part out of the way first: I'm not the strongest at iron sights. I'm working on that. I know it'll never get better if I don't work on it. I know that it's the solid foundation I should work towards. I know optics should never be a crutch.

That being said, I've been eyeing the Docter sight + pistol setups, and was wondering if you guys have any experience with them (especially, but not necessarily, on a Sig P226). Worth it? Not at all? Sorta? Do they work well?

Any thoughts/experiences from people who've used them? No offense, I just don't need to hear 10 people tell me "Eh, I can hit a fly at 40 yards with iron sights!", y'know?

I got the SIG STS-081 Red Dot with Bridge Mount for my P226. My eyes are not what they used to be. So I shoot using the iron sights until I can't get them in focus anymore and then slap the bridge mount on to continue. It is pretty ugly, but I like the convenience of switching back and forth in two minutes flat. Surprisingly it holds zero pretty well and needs only minor adjustments, if any. I prefer this setup to a more permanent conversion with a FastFire or Docter, because I won't loose the ability to use irons.

I had a doctor sight mounted on a cz75. The mount went into the rear sight dovetail. The sight sat too high for me where I was holding the gun lower than usual. When shooting the gun and looking through the doctor I couldn't co-witness the front sight. Sometimes I would bring up the gun and go where's the dot because I wasn't pointing the gun exactly at the target. Now if the sight had been lower where I could see the front sight or the slide it would have been much easier. I guy I shot with had a jpoint sight on a hipower. It's mount sat lower and was easier to pick up the dot. I sold the doctor and went with a fiber optic front sight which worked out better for me. Mark

I asked Grays about it and they recommended against it. If I recall, insufficient space to cut on the top of the slide.

They've got mounts that go in the rear dovetail.
