Although I like to polish/handle/admire my guns as much as anyone, I'd say you may be overdoing it if you are actually cleaning them every two weeks, whether they need it or not. I clean/oil after every use and maybe oil up once/year if I haven't used/shot one. If I handle a particular gun a lot, I will polish & oil her up after handling. But that's it.

A quick brush down and ensuring lubrication / rust inhibitors have a light coat on weathered areas is a good idea. I wouldn't run a bore brush through it every two weeks without being shot, but a patch wouldn't hurt.

If you live in a moist area or dusty area it would definitely be a good idea to give it a quick scrub with a brush in the exposed areas. No point in carrying it if you can't rely on it.

Clean it spotless after every time I shoot it, no matter how many rounds I've fired. You're not crazy. I like my gun to be clean especially if I'm going to be carrying it or putting it in my bag.

I revert back to my basic training days and keep it clean.

I only clean mine after a range trip, about once a week. Then I store them. If I don't fire a particular gun within a month or two, I usually just give the slide and rails a quick wipe and a drop or two of fresh oil.

For carry gun, I will clean after every shooting range AND even if the gun is clean I still take it apart and clean it every three weeks. Your carry gun picks up a lot of craps while you carry it (dirt, lints, hair, oil, etc..)

the only gun i clean after EVERY use is my Mosin Nagant, and that is only because of the corrosive ammo. Once I forgot about it, let it sit, in a nice dry place for a month or two, and had a lot of rust in the barrel and on the bolt face.

my glock 19, mossberg 500, Ithaca Model 72, and my two target rifles are cleaned when necessary. Or if im not feeling lazy. They are all firearms that I know do not need it after every session. So, if i get home and feel like cleaning, they get cleaned. if I dont, then they dont.

Most guns dont need to be cleaned after every use. I promise, they dont. I've had m4's and 240's go through thousands and thousands of rounds with no more then a quick bolt bath and a liberal soaking of CLP. My Ithaca Model 72 Saddlegun probably went like 2 years and 10,000 rounds without anymore than an exterior clean. Its my only fun .22, so it gets used. And its still chugging.

Just get to know your weapons. If you want them to look pretty, make them look pretty. If they are picky with ammo, are old, use lower quality ammo , then clean them often. If you dont care and you know they will still work, then do it at your leisure.

Short Answer, there is no answer to this question. Learn how to do it right, and then YOU decide how often they need it, based on your experience and preferences.

I don't carry mine, but they get cleaned after every range session. The blued revolvers get cleaned right away, the SS might have to wait a bit.

My AR is too delicate to clean let alone shoot. My AK gets the shoestring with 3 knots dipped in motor oil every 10 years, works like new.
Actually I clean them lightly after every range trip unless I use corrosive ammo and after several trips to the range I strip them down and do a more detailed clean but nothing too OCD.

My carry guns get cleaned after a trip to the range, and not at all after riding in the holster (never had any problem even after several months of carry).

My carry guns get a de-linting every so often and just a bit of oil/CLP but there is no need to do a full cleaning of a carry gun just due to being carried. After a range trip, I usually do a full cleaning though.

My 2 week wipe downs have a white cloth just a little dirty from carrying it around.
Just don't want something going sideways that I can control.
