9mm is cheaper than .45, so that's what I would choose, although it wouldn't be a Mac 10, it would be a Mac 11/9.Comment

Honestly, the only reason I see to own a gun like the mac is for plinking and range fun. Not for self-defense, there are better weapons for that. For this reason, I believe the 9mm should suffice.Comment

I agree, the pistol models seem to be rather pointless, in their legal configuration. The rifle/carbine models on the other hand...Jobs I have had, payed for by your tax dollars:
-Sandbag-filler who carries around a 203
-Sandbag-filler who carries around a 249
-Sandbag-filler who carries around a radio
-That guy, who when given a single, normal M4, hides in the Bradley, and sleeps.Comment

Agree 100%.
I'd like to pick one up in both calibers but, right now I'm leaning towards just the 9mm.NRA Life Benefactor Member

I'm pretty sure it is also possible to change calibers, based on my limited knowledge of the mac. I think if you get a .45, then you can buy a new upper assembly and bolt, and also a magazine well insert to convert it to take 9mm with sten mags as well. Something you should look into.
Just found this link: https://www.onlinesecureordering.com...?search.html&1
EDIT: now that I think about it, that ^ conversion kit may not work with a Mac that fires from a closed bolt. You would have to ask.Last edited by Dead*Reckoned; 11-24-2010, 9:37 PM.Comment

I prefer .45 overall, but in that type of gun I'd go 9mm.Originally posted by tuna quesadillaSure, a good 1911 will feed FMJ ammo flawlessly, and some of them will even feed JHP. But they lack the features that make the Glock the excellent pistol that it is. A 1911 is an enthusiast's toy, not a serious combat pistol.Comment

.380
I like my MAC-11 best. Small and cool looking. .380 caliber.
(yes..a RAW; can't sell it around these parts)

Amen, plus from my understanding the mac's have really bad trigger slap, so I'd assume the 9mm would have less trigger slap then a .45Comment
