Advice/input on Moonclips?

It seems that the back of the cylinder has to be machined to accomodate them. Is this correct? I have a Taurus 85 (.38 special) that I wouldn't mind modifying if the clips work as good as advertised. The standard speedloaders don't really fit very well between the open cylinder & frame. Also, do the clips hold up worth a ****, or do they take a beating too easy? Thanks for any input.R.

Yes, cylinder has to be shortened

The cylinder has to be machined to accomodate the moonclips. The cases still headspace on the rim so cartridges can still be loaded normally.

As others already mentioned, the cylinder has the be machined to accept them unless your gun comes standard to accept them (which I don't think your specific model does). Proper fitting moonclips are the standard for competition shooting.

On a side note, some guns don't even work at reliable levels without em (9mm revolvers come into mind).
