I got the chance to take my new LCR out to the range today to break her in. As many of you who helped me out know, I had narrowed my choice down to the LCR and the S&W 442. After trying both, I decided I liked the LCR more.
A little about the gun-
First of the trigger on this gun is BUTTER right out of the box and I imagine it will only improve with time. The length of pull is what you would expect on any DAO revolver, but the cam system Ruger designed makes it feel lighter than it really is. It has a crisp clean break, and you can stage it with some practice. Second thing that surprised my is just how light it really is. Ruger claims 13.5oz and with 5 rounds of 38spl it weighed in right at one pound. I wore it around the house today IWB in a Safariland leather holster at 4oclock and it felt great. My primary gun is my Glock 36 which I wear in the same spot and I was amazed at how light the LCR was compared to the G36. It also carried great in a front pocket and was not much heavier than my cell phone. I can see this gun getting carried as a primary gun when I am having one of my severe back pain days, and as a BUG quite a bit. The build quality on this gun is top notch as you would expect from Ruger. Before I took her out I swapped out the front sight for a Hi Viz fiber optic unit which is very easy to pick up quickly. I may go to the XS big dot in the future, but the Hi Viz worked great.
Range report-
I put about 150 rounds though the LCR today and I am pretty happy for the first time out with her. I shot a variety of WWB, Ammo Bros reloads, and Magtech rounds. I had exactly zero failures of any kind and the spent brass ejects very easily. The gun does have a pretty decent kick with +P rounds as expected from such a light gun, but the polymer frame and the Houge grips make it very manageable. I didn't do any real accuracy testing as I was just shooting offhand and enjoying my new toy, but I was getting decent groups for the first time out with a new DAO revolver and I am sure as I get used to her I will get better.
Overall I am very impressed so far with the Ruger LCR and I will be adding it to my CCW permit shortly. Now for the obligatory porn (amateur porn since all I have is my cell phone camera).
Also a few with my G36 and CW9 since these are my 3 CCW guns.
