    IDPA questions?

So I want to start shooting in a completive league, mainly because I am tired of standing and shooting at static targets. I just recently found out that the range I shoot at does IDPA matches on the first and third Sunday of the month. I have read the IDPA website and most of the IDPA rule book and I think I am going to shoot in the stock service pistol (SSP) class, because I have a sig 226 dak double action only, and I figured I would just pick a class I already have the equipment for and not have to buy another gun just to shoot in a specific class. (although that would give me a good reason to buy another gun) I was just curious could anyone give me a few pointers on how a match goes and what I should expect. Also what I should bring like food drinks and other stuff besides just me my gun and a lot of ammo. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.
    thanks
That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.

Our matches are $25, if you want to shoot again (second gun) it is an additional $15.
You will need an IDPA approved holster and magazine carrier for two magazines and some type of cover garment.
Why don't you go watch a match? Feel free to ask any questions, most folks who shoot IDPA are nice and helpful.

PS: Once you start shooting, you are going to love it!

You will need a holster and mag holders that meet the criteria in the rule book. You will also need a cover garment (something like a vest or jacket that will conceal your gun.)

That pretty much covers it. Don't worry about gearing up to heavy. Go shoot a match with the basics and you can get a much better idea what other gear you will want. like a range bag, speed loader, etc. etc. etc.

If you are looking at shooting at SacValley, the local IDPA club offers an introduction/orientation class on a Saturday before the match on Sunday...I'm not sure it is every match...that I have heard is very good.

I think there is a thread in the Competition sub-forum about this

The reason I suggested going and checking a match out is so the OP can learn about needed, approved gear.

ISI Shootists in Piru and Prado Olympic Park in Chino are closest to you. Check their websites for dates and match info.

You're better off staying away, then, if you value your pocketbook
I just shipped a 30lb ammo box to Columbus GA and will fly out next to Ft Benning with all my gear and guns to shoot a 3-gun match that'll probably have less than 15 minutes of total shooting. See what happens when you start shooting competitively?

Vanilla, you will learn a ton and love it. It is NOT target shooting, and one of the things you will have to wrap your head around is carrying and drawing a loaded firearm from the holster. Do it slowly until it becomes automatic. You WILL want to dry practice your draw at home once you have been in your first competition. Stay slow and smooth for now. Pay attention to where your muzzle points as you move. You will see more on the course and by watching others than you can take in. Take it step at a time.

Eveyone helped me when I started. They will help you if you're slow, but send you home if you are unsafe.
