Your standard GI model can be turned into the highest of high end customs or anywhere along that path if you so desire. Your gunsmith can easily cut a better version of a lowered/flared ejection port, your choice of any sight (front and rear) since the dovetails aren't pre-cut, and several types of magwells from bolt-on to custom weld-on. In essence, the GI model is just ready and waiting for a smith to put your custom touches on it any way you like!
The nice thing about a GI model over say a SA Loaded model is that the beavertail is original spec which allows cutting the radius for a higher grip. This then allows a custom, perfectly fit beavertail to be shaped and installed by your gunsmith. The Loaded models have a beavertail already installed from the factory, but the radius is not the same as a stock GI model and you can't just have your smith cut and customize a beavertail for it. There's only a few that are now compatible with the Loaded's radius. But I digress...
