    subsonic legality

I have a Five-seveN and hope to one day own a PS90(when it starts raining cash).
SS197SR is the sporting round. SS195LF is the lead free round. The previous two 5.7x28mm rounds are not restricted. SB193 is the subsonic round and is restricted. Why is the subsonic round restricted? I have bought plenty of 22lr subsonic ammunition without any trouble. Is there a difference of legality in subsonic rimfire and subsonic centerfire?
    Thanks all...

? It would be the first I've heard of it. I mean if you think about it, the most popular .45 rounds are subsonic by default

This was a business decision by FN, not a law. Presumably it's to avoid taking flak for selling evil evil subsonics to normal people.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure all standard load .45 acp are subsonic.

.45acp is subsonic, .380 is subsonic, so it must be a stupid FN policy.

My question: why have a 5.7 subsonic? Just shoot .22 subsonic.
The 5.7 round is designed to be high speed. If it's slowed down it just becomes a really expensive 22lr

I have a 5.7 too and I love it, but I wouldn't try to make it into something it's not... but that's just me.

Something to do with negating Silencers? Can't see how this makes sense but that's a reason for subsonic ammo.

asme is correct. (so is cineski) It's FN that restricts the sale of the SB193 to LE and military only.

Ya, FN has probably taken enough heat from the Fort Hood shooting. They don't need any more attention selling "silent" bullets, for a round that can cut through Level IIA Kevlar like butter.

Because even if you were to get a "true" silencer, you will still hear the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier, so a sub-sonic wont make that cracking noise, and if you have a true silencer, it WILL be a silencer since the bullet never broke the sound barrier.

And also, for those folks who talk smack about the FN not having enough killing power...13 dead and 30 wounded is a pretty letal round if you ask me....our boys over sea are getting less kills then that with AR's per shot fired.

                    the restricted rounds are/were:

                    ss190
                    l191
                    sb193
                    t194
                    ss198

                    the civilian legal rounds are:

                    ss192
                    ss195lf
                    ss196sr
                    ss197sr

batfe put the restriction on 190/191. i have a feeling that fn put similar restrictions on 193/194 because the bullets were non-hp, similar to 190/191, and didn't want to have any more undue scrutiny. but there's just no rhyme/reason why fn would restrict 198.

to be honest, the 193 isn't all that. it's bigger and slower than the 190/191, which is good for subsonic, but useless in kali, as we can't get suppressors. supposedly the 194 had some issues with ignition and there were alot of failures with that round. i've shot both and was unimpressed.

if i were you, i'd go with elite ammo. they have much better offerings.
