    Calling XD owners

Ive been putting a lot of thought to this! im thinking of selling my 3rd gen Glock 19 and buying a XD 45 (service model) with the 4" barrel. heres what the pros and cons are IMO:

    pro:
    1. its a 45acp and I reload 45acp for my 1911.
    2. slimmer grip than the glock 21
    3. big variety of upgrades
    4. its a springfield (lifetime warranty)
    5. I can shot lead without changing barrels

    cons:
    1. mags can bee expensive
    2. some people say they are not as reliable as a glock (do not know if its true or not)
    3. resale value is not too good

I shot one about 3 years ago, this was when I started shooting handguns, the first 3 rounds where in the bull's eye. I always wanted one, but kept buying glocks instead, not with the new laws coming out next year i rather be able to share the same ammo for all my guns. I looove my G19 but theres no point to keep it if im trying to avoid buying 9mm ammo and am trying to switch to 45acp. what do you guys think? I think its a great choice for a polymer gun thats not a glock.

why not spent the money on a 9mm die?

just go to the range to pick up the shells and you can keep your G19.

      problem solve.

keep in mind that your payback wont be as quick for 9mm. but since you already have the reloading setup. might as well make good use of it.

It is a great choice. I have a .40 with a 9mm conversion barrel. I bought a nine mag, but the .40 actually works too. I also shoot the .45 at my range because I love the way it shoots. You can't go wrong, the only other thing I would look at for a nice gun is a glock 20

BTW M&P .45 is also another excellent choice.

your welcome, i've just made the decision that much harder.

reloading 9mm is not really worth the hassle, they are about bout the same price, but with 9mm you end up saving about $2 every 50 rounds. but first id have to buy a die set, powder funnel, and a bunch of other things, then have to worry about small primer and brass. so im trying to keep it simple and stay with 45.

I have an XD .40 4" and love it. I'd throw Pro Point#3 more towards the Glock side tho. You have a few options for barrels and such but finding gear for your XD is problematic. For every holster made for XD, there are 100 made for Glock. Same goes for grips, sights and so on. Replacement parts pretty much come from SA and only SA. There are a handful of places that make parts, but the 1/100 almost applies here too. It's getting better... but don't base the decision on it.

Got about 700 rnds through my Xd .45 tactical...only had 1 ftf due to bad primer, otherwise probably one of the best guns you could buy.

I gave up my XD45 for the M&P. It's all about fit. BUT, I couldn't stand to sell such an excellent weapon so I gave the XD to my Dad.

G21 is not impressive at all IMO.
XD was excellent, never had a single issue with it. mags aren't necessarily expensive, they're just not dirt cheap like glock and AR mags.

I'm not a big fan of conversions or changing crap, consider that for yourself. Make sure you shoot the XD...I just found it a little odd in some aspects, specifically I had problems with engaging the slide release after the last round when using a high thumbs forward grip.

Man Im going through this same dilemma, and every week there seems to be a new thread started about which polymer pistol to buy. Im trying to find a way I can shoot all three side by side to see which one I like the best. Like you, all .45acp because that is what I currently reload as well.

You mention that you have a 1911.
The XD's grip angle will be closer to the 1911 than a Glock, so if you like that 1911 grip angle, the XD will work for you.

If you're used to the grip safety on the 1911, you'll have no problem with the grip safety on the XD. The grip safety on my XDs are easier to engage than my 1911s.

Reliability on my XD's has been excellent. Go peruse the XDtalk.com site and look for complaints.

I have a couple Glocks,(G19) included and an XD 45 Service Model and XDm 9mm. The Glock and XD's Shoot differently in my hands. I like them both and i have setups to carry all my handguns. I find I carry the Glock 19 much more than the XD45 but I shoot the XD more than the Glock 19... I say keep the Glock and buy the XD....

have you take a look at the CZ 97

since you are a 1911 guy, i think you would appreciate the solid CZ setup

BTW what about FN45. very underrated from what i can see.
