    What would you do?

I was at the range the other day...

Two lanes down from me a gentleman was shooting a nice 1911. Problem is his casings were ejecting over two lanes and hitting me in the face. I even have a little case hickey on my neck to show for it.

I didn't say anything that day - instead I went for a smoke and just asked to be moved to another lane.

Obviously, there's a problem with his extractor/ejector. Would you have said anything?

      Sure.

I'd would have spoken with him about the casings in a respectful tone of voice. If he's going to continue to used the gun in a public range, he's going have to fix the issue or wait till he has the place to himself.

Yeah you should have let him know what your issue was and moved a lane or two over.. its nothing to go ape sh*t over.

My father has a Colt Delta Goldcup Match in 10mm that has the nasty habit of randomly throwing a spent case the wrong direction. In his case at least it throws it into his own shirt-often landing in the front pocket or unfortunately down the neck.

It never throws it further than a foot or so away fortunately. He's tried to have it fixed, but to no avail.

He'd agree with the don't shoot around others rule. It can really sting when a hot case hits unprotected skin. I know, it has done the same to me.

Like a crying baby in the airplane.

At the range, at that moment, in that situation, what do you expect him to do about it? Make him aware of your experiences?

If I were in your situation, I would have done what you did. wait and ask for a new lane, or just move lanes.

hmm.. good question.. I probably would have asked for another lane right when it first happened and explained why I wanted to move lanes..

maybe then the range person might have mentioned it to the guy shooting the wild flyin 1911

I would have asked for the lane to the left of him and start pelting him with my ejected casings.

EASY, I would have moved 2 lanes to the left of him and started banging away with my Garand. That will leave a scar.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I'm pretty tall, and unfortunately sometimes my ejected brass flies over the lower divider walls. People have tapped me on the shoulder (luckily when I was DONE firing my magazine) and asked me to step back to hit the taller divider wall. Only once has someone been a dick about it (tone of voice, looking tough infront of his kid I guess), but with a polite voice anything is possible.

Most folks at the gun range are there to relax and enjoy themselves, just be friendly.

I usually ask people to stop doing certain things with a little bribe. "Hey here's a sheet of shoot-n-see's I don't need, will your dumb husband quit muzzle sweeping me please?"

Definitely ask politely. There is a chance the shooter might not even be aware of whats going on or if theres anything wrong with his gun.

I would have moved to a different lane. I don't like other shooters close to me anyway, when I shoot.

For some reason I just imagine you throwing them at him by hand.
