Quick sighting question

I'm a rifle shooter primarily. Can someone confirm, for both target and defense, whether I should be COVERING the target with my front sight, or should be having my point of aim resting on top of the front sight like a rifle.
Also with 9mm rounds, if I change from 124gr to 147grain wadcutters, would my POI at 7 - 10yards drop significantly?

Pistols can have sights installed for either the "6 o'clock hold" or the regular "bullseye" (?) hold. All my Springfield Armory guns are 6'Oclock but with my S&W guns I generally hold the top of the front sight across the center of the target, rather than the target sitting "on top" of the post.

Even with a center hold, the POI is still at the top of the sight blade isn't it? so the front sight doesn't cover the target does it? quetsion answered.

You want the top of the front sight to parallel the top of the rear sight, all in a line. Point of impact is at the sight intersection, not 6 oclock. Sight it in at 40 yards (start at 7 yards). 147s will shoot a couple of inches high compared to 115-125's (assuming zero for 125's).

Not enough information provided. Depends on many factors. POI isn't the same even among guns of the same model.

Most of my handguns with adjustable sights I set them for POI at 25 yards. The bullet wouldn't stray far from the level of the sight from arms reach to 25 yards. I usually aim a bit higher at 50 yards depending on the load/caliber.

Sorry should have been clearer. What I meant was. when I've changed the sight blades to get the ideal POI and have it zeroed, I will be aiming (pun intended) to have the POI exactly at the top of the sight blade when it is correctly aligned with the rear sight to provide the correct sight picture.
