Simple newb question , i shot my uncles .357 Taurus revolver and i had to pull back the hammer each time i wanted to shoot. Why is that? what is the difference between single and double action revolvers because i think that has something to do with it

When you say you had to pull the hammer back, do you mean that you were compelled to, or you couldn't pull the trigger without doing that?

Single action: You pull the trigger and one thing happens: The hammer drops

Double action: You pull the trigger and you cock and drop the hammer.

I'm assuming that you find that shooting the revolver in double action mode is difficult to do well? You just need trigger time.
