If you want finger grooves...pearce makes them also, so you will have more options on any grips. http://www.pearcegrip.com/colt-gov.htm

Shoot it with the stock Pachmayr grips it comes with before you change them out. Leave the finger grooves to the Glocks.

Aesthetics over function? If you like the fit and feel of the grips go forit, it's you who has to shoot the gun.

I like Esmerelda grips, but only on my BBQ guns.

Ignoring aesthetics for the moment, finger groove grips like the ones shown prevent you from getting as high of a hold as possible, consequently they do affect function. They add material and thickness in an area that people strive to reduce thickness in via trigger guard undercutting.

Like I said... they work for me, but I have long fingers so "slimming" the grip is not something that is a need for me.

As far as the height of the hold, the beavertail blocks that.
And if you grip that high on an A1, you're going to suffer hammer bite.
