    1911 colt question

Did Colt ever use a serial number that didn't start with a "C"? A friend has a Colt that the serial number is XX511. We are trying to identify but can't find an exact serial match.

Call Colt on Monday - they have a help and information service. Give the guy all the data you have and he will get you some info within a minute or 2 and if he cant, he'll suggest a letter request for more research at a small cost.

Out of curiosity, what model (description) does your friend have?

Old GI issue ones didn't have any letter prefix. "Cxxxxxx" is older commercial ones. Modern ones have letters. Mine from the 70's is xxxxxB70.

not cherry, but in pretty damn good condition. It has the pearl grips but the colt medallions are missing.

Many Colts don't have C prefix serial numbers. As stated, the only ones that did have it are the oldest of the Commercial models.

                  What caliber and barrel length?
