I have several S&W 1911s, including one 4.25in scandium commander. I am quite happy with all of them and plan to get more.

kimber vs S&W

Well, don't have a S&W semi-auto. However, for whatever it's worth, an early Kimber TLE (internal extractor) bought NIB gave me constant feeding problems. Tried different magazines and adjusting extractor tension to no avail. Stuck it in the back of the safe waiting for the day I can deal with sending it back to Kimber for repairs. Been shooting a series 70 Colt picked up used since and enjoying it. What a sweet trigger!Comment

I have both. A S+W 1911 and a handful of Kimbers.
As others have mentioned, the Kimbers are a bit beefier in build, and more attention to details on the finishing touches.
However, I did a home trigger job on the S+W to smooth out what were some lower-grade trigger group parts. The result is a gun with a really nice trigger, that is quite accurate and has thousands of rounds down the barrel. It is very reliable.
My Kimbers, on the other hand, have varied, from having issues with feeding reliability, to guns that were reliable and never had a malfunction from day 1. It seems to just depend on the gun with Kimber. They are all spot-on incredibly accurate.
My sample size for S+W is obviously smaller, so take it for what it's worth..Comment

Ok so i fondeled both, the choice is clear...........KIMBER hands down. The smith trigger rattles inplace, and the action is not nearly as smooth. Im gunna see if I cant pick up the kimber tomorro.FOR SALE: XD45, 24/47 Yugo Mauser, AK RPD AES-10bComment
