Front sight fell off =(

So I was at the range today and shooting good groups at 30', when all of a sudden I started hitting a little right...then a little farther right..aaaand a little farther. So I took a break thinking I was developing a bad habit or something. When I went back to shooting I was hitting even farther right! WTF? Loaded another mag, started shooting, and BANG! The front sight disappeared.
I figured it couldn't have gone far, so I got my light out and managed to find it in the sea of brass in front of the bench next to me.

Soo...what now? It's a Trijicon night sight on a three week-old XD9. Do I take it back to the dealer or send it to Springfield?

Call the dealer before you drive there though as they might not be set up to handle it.

Most dealers dont want to deal with it. Just contact the manufacture and they will send you a pre-paid shipping label to mail your slide back.

Will that do it? It doesn't strike me as something Loctite-able. I always thought the sights were pressed in and were more or less permanent until they were pressed out.

Dunno. Some are screwed in, others are staked.

Sadly, this is a problem with XDs. I would use locktite as mentioned above or re-setup/zero your sights and a very small drop (i.e. tip of needle) of thin cyanoacrylate adhesive to the edge between sight and groove in the slide.

Probably the correct way would be to set a punch to the slide and sight bottom and push on with the right sight pusher.

Yup loctite works but just make sure it's blue loctite. My trijicon night sights were getting loose on my glock so I put some loctite and after 1000+ rounds it's still on tight.

Dang. I have green and red. Will pick up some blue tomorrow.

The biggest problem I'm seeing here is that the sight is not a tight fit in the slot, so I'm concerned that it might eject itself again and I won't be able to find it this time.

Thats odd. A lot of places wont even touch XD sights due to the complete pain in the *** it is to remove them since they are so tightly press fit in.

I had that happen on an Xd. It happens and is no biggie. I just peened the slot to tighten up the groove the sight fits in though it may be not the proper procedure.

Send it back to Springfield. Don't mess around with the loctite. Don't borther with peening the underside of the night sight as it can break the lamp. Your dovetail could be out of spec.
