Poll: Lies about round counts

I'm curious how many of you when you've either bought or sold a gun on Calguns or via other methods, have you lied about the round counts or been lied to. Or have you known someone else that may have lied about the round counts.

I've never bought a used gun, but perhaps this survey may change my mind

There's a difference between a few hundred rounds and a few thousand rounds. I could care less as I don't buy guns just to look at them, but if it were a safe queen in question, yes, it would matter.

Knowingly lied about round counts. Diff between 1000 and 1100 is not a big deal. Diff between 1000 and 5000 is lying (IMHO).

got all my pistols from my dad so i'm not worried about it. aside from that, who cares about round count. look at it and as long as it's not obviously worn out or hammered, don't worry about it. i couldn't tell you how many rounds i've put through my guns. barely have a rough idea how many miles i put on my car, and it's got a friggin' odometer. a close guess is the best you'll get unless you're buying from someone with OCD. if you count the boxes of ammo you've shot through it, great, but if you have tons of handloads in boxes, ziplocks and stuff, who really keeps track that closely? i dunno.

I recently sold a Marlin 336 that had an hones 20 rounds thru it so I had an exact count. The only gun I got used was my AR15 and I think it had more than the 300 advertised rounds thru it, but it was in good shape and it's not a safe queen. My other guns, I don't know, but have a ballpark idea of what they have for a round count. Not that any are for sale, but I could guess within 200 rounds probably. I buy my guns to use them, so as long as they are in good shape round count isn't too big of a deal for me. If I were to someday buy a safe queen, I would want an honest round count.

i shot between 1-1000 on my guns...... probably more on my 22lr

since i don't plan on selling them, i don't keep count. i can barely remember what i ate yesterday, no way i'm going to remember how many rounds i fired months ago.

This crap is generally cause by noobs who don't know that handguns are not precision rifles and insist on low round counts when they buy. A S&W revolver with 10k or heck even 25-30k rounds through it does not need the barrel replaced if the timing it not off or it is not damaged in any way. I have a model 15 that has been touched by more hands than a $2 Brooklyn hooker, but it still shoots pretty accurate for my needs. People want to feel good about guns they buy and this leads to sellers making up round counts.

I keep track of round counts only on rifles that shoot hot like 22-250 and so on so I can replace the barrel when necessary. Handgun? No chance. If I am ever selling one, if you ask me for round count, I'll tell you I don't know (unless I genuinely never fired it much). Inspect it, check the timing, cylinder gap, action, slide, barrel and make up your own mind.
