I have been wondering for awhile, how much tactical things(night sights, lasers, lights, grips, dehorning, etc) have actually done to make pistols work better. Is there any documentation that police, swat, "operators" or anyone else has had more stops or have more hits with pistols now that all this new stuff is being added to handguns. Looking for cites not anecdotal evidence that these mods are better than a reliable stock pistol.

one of the things you mentioned (dehorning) have more to do with reliability than with combat accuracy. Things like lights? That stuff is about being able to see. If you can see when it's dark it's a good thing. How well you shoot is something entirely different. As for grips, some are more comfortable for some people than others. It's very subjective.
In short, there is no answer to your question. I doubt is anyone keeps the kind of statistic you are looking for. Adding "tactical" stuff (whatever that means) to your weapon is a personal choice, not a statistical one. It will work for some, not for others. What do you mean my birth certificate expired? -
In my opinion, a handgun only needs to feed reliably, be accurate, and easy to use. All other things are specific to the operators environment. Night sights, lights, extended this and that, all user specific. I'm currently building a "work gun" out of my Springfield GI 1911 and it's only getting the stuff I feel it needs to do it's job, shoot holes in stuff without much fuss. I'll post up pics when it's done.sigpic
George Washington didn't use the 1st amendment to defeat the British...he shot them.

I am wondering if the agencies, police, US Marshals, FBI etc keep documentation that the modifications done were useful in making more hits on a live target vs unadorned pistol. Something to the effect of:
since adding insert modification here, more hits were placed on target on live suspects etc therefore insert agency here has justified the added expense of the modifications to these weaponsComment

I have never heard of any such statistic. Like I said before, some of your criteria aren't even applicable.I am wondering if the agencies, police, US Marshals, FBI etc keep documentation that the modifications done were useful in making more hits on a live target vs unadorned pistol.
