    DROS and "changed mind" question

Not sure where to put this. Sorry. MODS please move if needed.

If I purchase a hangun, and 10 days after DROS decide (for reasons i'll skip) to pass on the handgun, what happens?

    1. I assume I have to wait a min 30 days to purchase again?

    2. After 30 days, I would have to re-DROS if I wanted it after all?

    3. Handgun is removed from my name?

    Thanks

The DROS is valid for 30 days, after that, I'm pretty sure you just have to DROS it again or ask the store to give you your money back.

I had to DROS my shotgun twice because I was denied the first time.

I don't the gun is in you name untill you pick it up and the dros is finalized and closed. I could be wrong. The dros is "open" for 30 days, so you have 30 days to make up your mind. If you don't take it, its up to the gun dealer as to his refund policy. You are going to get hammered with a restocking fee, many places its 30%.

Well if you paid in full and it has been DROS'd, it's yours. If you bought from a shop like Turners or such the best you could do is sell the gun back, usually at a loss, and go from their.

The gun is yours, unless you have not removed it from the stores system they might be able to cancel the DROS (only seen this done at Turner's)

If they can cancel it, then you would be able to DROS that day, if not you would have to wait 20 more days.

So if I just recently completed a PPT transaction, I can do another PPT transaction and get the gun right away without paying for another dros and waiting another 10 days?

That's what I thought. So I don't understand the comment regarding a DROS being valid for 30 days.

Last time I checked, DROS was specific to a particular gun.

Form 4473 also requires the serial # of the gun.

                DROS != NICS check.

That means that you must pick up withen 30 days of the DROS date. After 30 days the current DROS expires and you would have to RE-DROS the gun and wait 10 days more to pick up.

It does not mean that for the next 30 days you can add more handguns to the DROS. 1 DROS per HG.

When you purchase a handgun, you start the DROS and that is Day 0. On Day 10 you can pick the gun up at the store. If you don't pick up the gun by Day 30, the DROS is invalidated and you can't pick up the gun anymore. You have to re-DROS the gun and wait another 10 days and pay another $25. So it's not "final" until you sign the paperwork at the store when you pick it up. Most stores have steep restocking fee's though, you might want to just take it and PPT it to someone as a brand new gun for $50 off what you paid or something.

the "DROS is valid for 30 days" means that you have 30-days to complete the purchase of the DROSed firearm". If you don't pick it up within 720 hours of the DROS submittal, the DROS is void and you have to reDROS it if you still want it.

It doesnt mean that you can buy additional firearms anytime during the 30-day wait and "use" the original DROS.

To put it simply, we can only buy one new or used handgun from a store or dealer every 30 days after last pick-up. Hence the term "one handgun a month".

No limit on hand gun PPTs.

I wasn't denied. It was personal why. No money exchanged. No restock fee.
